CV Boot Guards?

The dealer recently discovered the passenger side cv boot on the front axle was leaking grease and they told me it was torn. I decided to have them fix this since i had a coupon for parts and labor. $300 later, it was fixed. I know for sure there was no leak when I bought the truck a month ago. I have gone off roading a few times in the woods and although I dont think this issue was trail-related, just incase, i was wondering if anyone has found anything to protect the cv boots on the front axle from damage. Looking at it, you would think that not much can access them but it looks like small sticks and branches would be enough to tear or knock it off the clamps or something like that. Has anyone found anything to protect them off road?:lookout:

Usually they don't get torn from off-roading or what not (at least not many I've seen). What usually happens is the rubber boots get a bit old and "dried out" (the rubber plasticizes) and a tear forms at the small diameter clamp of the inner CV Boot. Also the clamps lose tension and grease can start to seep out there as well.

But I suppose you could mock up some sort of "Shield" that could bolt in front of the CV boots? But they're fairly decently protected by the body of the vehicle and suspension components usually.

Did you ever find a way to protect the CV boots?

Look into Ricochet's LCA skid plate. It's a pretty tall piece of aluminum.
