CV boot leaking IMMEDIATELY after lift install

Both of my CV boots started leaking today after picking it up from having the lift installed less than 30 miles ago. They are leaking where the boot meets the axle shafts on the inner boots closest to the diff. Could this be a one time thing due to change in driveline angles? The boot is not torn, just a little grease leaching out between the axle shaft and boot. Anyone else experience this? Lift is OME 886/895 w/5100 bilsteins.

Get some clamps on those PRONTO!

Clamps purchased here McMaster-Carr for Upper & Lowers CV boots in case you need to find them.

Very common occurrence. I just rebooted my axles and used the factory style clamps, but haven't reinstalled them yet. I'm hoping that cranking down on the new bands will work, but if not, I'll be getting the McMaster-Carr clamps mentioned above.

Thank you gentlemen. I'm glad I checked them two hours after install, looks like I won't have to add grease. That's a great write up on 120. Might add those items to my on board tool kit.

I had the same problem after I did Daystar 2" lift with FJ springs. I will be ordering a set too.

Or you could just do what I did, not worry about it. Mine spewed grease from the day I lifted it, then one day they stopped. 15,000 hard miles a couple hundred off road and no issues. To me it's just not worth the effort to worry about them losing a little grease. They'll click when they're crapped out, until then I'm not going to spend any money on them. But hell that's just me, broke college student.

My boot tore during the install. A new axle was 86$. So I replaced it myself real quick. And I got the old one out quick enough I can re boot it and have a spare.

I would never want to let it leak and have to clean up all that grease.

I know this is an old post, but I am in need of resealing my CV boots. I have a question...Does anyone that did this have extra clamps that they will sell? I dont see the need to buy 10 when 2 are needed ( or 20 when 4 are needed).

Anyone have spares laying around that they want to sell?

Honestly I am using hose clamps and no problems so far on 2.5k miles. But that was on the outside boots

I used wide zip ties for a bit until I bought M-C clamps. Worked fine...and meets the cheap requirement.

Thanks to all of you that read and replied.

The purpose of this thread was to get some of you that ordered the McMaster-Carr clamps to sell me a couple of the extras you received. They come on a pack of 10 and a pack of 5...we only need 2 and 2. I was hoping to put a couple bucks in YOUR wallet without draining MY wallet too much.

That being said, I just ordered the 10 pc and 5 pc McMaster-Carr sets. So much for trying to save a buck. And it isnt so much about saving a buck or two, its about having to order 10 when only 2 are needed, but oh well.
