cv boots messing up after toytec ultimate lift?

Here is what I have so far.
Toytec ulltimate lift with red coils on front and OME 891 with pro comp 9000 shocks along with a 1 inch diff drop. I have 285/ 75r16 good year wrangler duratrac tires on my 97 4 runner limited. SO after I put the lift on and drove it a bit I started noticing that my cv boots were loosing grease and slinging it everywhere..... I think i got around 3 inches out of the lift total but i figured with the diff drop the cv axels would be ok... any ideas?

sorry I havent had time to get any pictures of the actual boots Hopefully this weekend i might can get some...

Lol my cv boots did the exact same thing. To fix it I headed over to NAPA, picked up some new cv boot clamps, and the leak stopped. Very easy fix, and the parts were cheap too. :trophy:

Leaky cv boots are common after a lift since the axles are not used to the new angle.

BTW your rig looks great!

Off topic, but are you blocking out the vin # on your dash? I can't even read those when I'm right in front of them.

Are the boots cracked or will a clamp fix it? I have the same lift and new CV's but the boots keep tearing. I've got one trash bagged and zip-tied for now until the joint actually fails.

After you let the springs settle, you may notice the rear sag comes back. 1.5" spacers take care of that nicely. Nice looking truck you got.

Got about 700miles on mine... exact same lift and tire combo. Haven't seen any grease yet, but I keep checking for it. Once I stop looking they will probably start spirting grease everywhere.

what kind of CV axle are you using? The cheap auto parts store ones use a really poor quality boot which tears super easy. OEM toyota CV's are the way to go.

To the OP, the clamps will definitely help if the boots are not torn. Spraying silicone lubricant on them can help reduce the friction on the boots.

I did a 2" lift and a 1" diff drop and I figured the angle wouldn't be that bad. My boots tore the day after and grease was all over. They were 11 years old so I spent a weekend replacing them. The new ones tore a week later. I was so pissed. So I have been driving them torn for about year now LOL. I figure I'll replace them when they are getting bad but I also don't drive the truck a ton. I did a good amount of research on this and it seems everyone has different stories. I was trying to buy some high angle boots but the company I found making them went under so I never got them. Let me know what you do.

9 times out of 10, its the inner boots that tear. The ones you buy from Advance or Autozone are usually crap and will tear really quick. I would only go OEM Toyota.

Well I crawled under my truck for the first time this morning since installing my lift, and lo and behold..there's dots of white grease sprayed everywhere on both sides. The boots aren't torn, though, from what I could see. It almost looked like they were leaking out of the end of the boots..like the clamps weren't tight enough maybe.

I didn't install a diff drop with my 881's. Should I?

Edit: I should probably mention they're not gushing grease. Just lightly sprayed dots of grease around the CVs. Is this normal right after a lift?

My passenger side inner boot is leaking some grease too. But yeah sounds like the same situation I'm in...its normal after lifting. FWIW, I did not install the diff drop yet and probably won't. I think eventually I'll just have the CV's and boots changed with new ones and call it a day.

I did a pretty good amount of driving in 4WD yesterday after that post, so if I crawl under there and see a ton of grease I will probably try to find a way to fix it. If not, I'll just let it go for now.
