CV failure

Hi all,
I'm wondering how to diagnose a CV failure or pending failure. I leveled the truck out with a bilstien .85 / FJ coil combo, and recently noticed a build up of grease at the inner LH boot clamp. What's the best method to figure out how much grease / quality of grease still remains In the boot. I've already got a new clamp and grease gun, but I'm thinking it may be time for a new CV

There is a great thread about leaking clamps on the CV boots. I just went through the same thing you did, but I think I caught the leak soon enough that the CV joint is ok. I pumped grease back into the boot and replaced the clamp. So far so good. Maybe you can simply do the same and save yourself a bunch of money and time. Worth a shot. Good luck.

You can remove the outer clamp (maybe inner as well) to push the boot back and see the condition for the grease, inject more grease, and re-clamp it. I would use the marine clamps from McMaster-Carr (sku's: 15574K16 and 25574K24). To diagnose CV failure you'll start to hear clicking when turning, as the life of the CV wears out further, the clicking will become louder, and be exhibited during regular driving (not just turns).
