CV replacment pics

Thanks for the response. I misspoke it was the passenger not driver side.

Looks like the part is 70-100 bucks or so, so a 120 to install I'm a-ok with...sounds easy enough of an install but improper tools, needing the socket, and easy frustration, I'll pass this time.

Now here is a strange emoticon..

old and new

The picture above shows some of the differences between OE and aftermarket.
The old (on the left) is probably an OE. It has the three lobes on the inner joint and the axle shaft has a taper in the middle.

Aftermarket inners (on the right) are usually (maybe always) are round and the axle shaft is straight.

Alright... T4R noob question....

I need to replace my passenger size axle half shaft. I see on most sites there isn't a difference between passenger and driver side. Also I see people use one as a spare (which is what I'll do with the old one after I rebuild it).

So I assume the driver and passenger axle half shafts are totally interchangeable. Correct?

Thanks!

Yes.

Do any of you guys know who sells the axles and Includes the axle seal. I have to change mine this week because it's dripping diff fluid and it would be nice to get them at the same time.

i will be replacing my driver side on in a few weeks, i was under there yesterday and noticed there was a small crack and grease everywhere and looks like the previous owner put a zip tie to hold it on, ah well.

I removed my drivers side CV tonight. I'm taking it to a place that rebuilds them for $75. They said they can either rebuild mine or give me an OE cv axle that is already rebuilt. I was refered to them by 3 different axle/gear shops. My question is, how can I tell if the one they already have rebuilt is OE or aftermarket? I for sure want OE.

I looked on mine for markings or castings but could not find any, granted mine is extremely dirty and covered in grease from the leaking boot. I just don't want to trade my OE axle for some crappy one unknowingly.

which shop in the DFW area does this work?

were you satisfied with their work that you would now also recommend them?

Did you install the copper dust shield too? My cv doesn't "hug" the diff that closely...maybe that's why it leaks?
