CV Shaft movement and spacing

T4R,

I have a 2002 T4R Auto 3.4 with MANUAL HUB CONVERSION (for those in the know the CV is different on the ADD non manual hub T4R/Taco). I recently replaced my passenger side CV axle after I broke it about a year ago (been using 3WD lately). I noticed there was about 1” of sided to side slide in the CV, I tightened the retaining but with the big washer that limits the CV from just coming out but there’s still play side-to-side. My primary concern is not the movement but the fact the rear of the hub where it meets the CV face are not together allowing water, dirt, mud, ingress.

Is that supposed to sit flush with the hub like that? On the earlier IFS shafts there's a snap ring that locates the outboard end of the CV in the hub body, does the 3rd gen shaft have a slot for that snap ring?

It can come out as go in, that picture is about middle of the side-to-side movement. No snap ring on the new one or old one. I'd thought of getting another washer to suck up the slack but wasn't sure, the other side moves a bit but not enough to allow ingress of debris.

Something in the back of my mind it telling me this is the wrong bolt or at least length, I'll check the insertion depth on the CV then cut the bolt down so that it snugs the washer to the shaft and hopefully eliminates the slop.
