The boot on my 4runner is ripped. Can I just change out that boot or what? Never really fooled around with these before. It seems to be leaking some oil out of the boot

should be able to get a boot kit from the parts store for 15 apiece...go ahead and get a seal for your wheel bearing while you are there...not to bad a job to do at all...

The above link is for a 3rd gen, BUT it is pretty close to the 2nd gen too.

The only real advice I have is to support your shaft when you take the cv loose from the hub. I snapped a cv joint once because it fell out. Bad deal.

In the meantime, squeeze out any old, dirty grease and fill the ripped boot with clean stuff. Pack it nice and full. Yes, a lot will spin out, but some will stay inside too. It won't fix anything, but may help slow the damage from the tear letting crud inside.
