DAC Button

I am sorry if this is a repost, but I did a search on DAC and it told me I need to search using 4 characters or more, then I tried with button and still the same message.

Okay, with that said, with this blizzard we had I finally found a reason to use that DAC button. I did what it said, while in motion I shifted to 4th gear (this is an automatic I, I pushed it to the left from drive) and pressed the DAC button. The DAC symbol was blinking and down the hill I went, but I did not see any change, if I let go of the gas it still accelarated, if I breaked or anything, I felt no difference. How is DAC really supposed to work, what am I to look for to conclude if this works or not?

Thanks, so it works in 4 Lo and you need to be off pavement: gotcha!!!

Now the question is the manual typed wrong or did I read it wrong? I will double check, but I do believe it said you need to be in gear 4, which basically means shifting the automatic shifter to the left.

Thanks Peter. Oh, check your PM.

to use dac:

MUST be in 4LO. Also you must also be in 1st gear (LOW). the DAC is used to keep the vehicle from running away and letting it crawl down some tricky spots. Thus you would already be in 4lo and also be in low gear (1st). Thus, DAC is used to assist the driver but not take away from the driver.

personally i don't like it... way too much beeping and stuff... but i'm sure it's suppose to be better than my 2 feet though... i think it takes away from the fun sometimes:)

If you read the owners manual it would have told you that it only works in 4LO and it works best with the trans. in a lower gear. You have the book, now its time to start reading before you have a problem and don't know the answer.

FYI,
I did read the book and it said to be in 4th gear: it did not say 4 Low.

Also, the whole point of a forum is to post questions!

in regards to the previous comments...

there are no such things as stupid questions... :)

It's good that this comes up as not everyone knows how to use alot of the toys on our trucks! best to ask as a reference just to verify what you read as you really don't want to mess up your new toys!

Good luck!

We're all here to help!

off to the next thread!

DAC works only in 4LO. You should be in 4LO first. And it modulates the decent UNDER 9mph. It creeeeeps downhill. Unless you are offroad on a rutted and loose trail, it's pretty useless on roads. The anti-lock brakes are the best way to decend a slippery road in the winter.
I tried to see if 4LO would be useful on road by testing on a snow covered parking lot... Anti-climatic is all I can say. 20mph in 4th gear!! LOL !!

DAC is extremely useful in severe angles of mud and rocks going downhill. And yes, you have to be at an extreme angle and going very slow. I have used it extensively coming down a few mountain passes (12k-13k ft.) where FOUR WHEELERS were having problems!

It allowed me the confidence to tackle the descents without too much fear of losing control. Some of those descents would have been very dangerous without this type of assist because they were switchbacks. It would've been alot easier to have a long straight descent, but don't ever count on that in the mountains.

Alot of drivers in these conditions actually put their transmissions in reverse to creep down these types of inclines. I was totally confident in the system and didn't touch the brake pedal at all (took awhile to get used to that).

There would be no way to negotiate these types of inclines without overheating the brakes or tearing something else up without the DAC. It is really useful, but only in extreme circumstances. When you learn to use it and really need it, you will realize this is one of the options that makes the 4Runner superior to most 4x4s.

DAC is specifically for downhill only. Its used so you can free up your foot from the brakes so you can gas when needed.

Also the computer can react faster than your foot.

Going uphill.... just press the gas and go!
