Sad to see the 4Runner out of commision, especially this time of the year :(
I've been having some fun working on another project as a winter rig, doesn't look like we'll be getting any weather in the valley any time soon though.

Currently rocking my 02 Forester with a lift kit and 31" M/T's. It's like a mini 3rd gen.

By the way, this is my instagram and snapchat if anybody wants to follow. @hooptayy

I started working on the runner today. Got really big plans, everybody will be stoked. It's a secret for now though.

Do you think the Turbo blew up the motor? I suspect a 2UZ swap but I'd really like you to build a bulletproof 3RZ ala LCE style!

The Chinese all aluminum radiator was leaking, which ended up overheating pretty good, and it wouldn't start the next day. Zero compression on a couple holes, so blown head gasket, So not exactly. The turbo definitely exposed weak ring seal on the bottom end, as it was using a lot of oil and had some pressure in the combustion chamber, that's to be expected with probably nearly 300k on the bottom end, but it was still running strong until the head gasket went.

Overheating will definitely do it. I think a hose burst on mine when it overheated on the highway back in 2010. That's why I had it rebuilt. It had some serious tapping after doing the head gasket & we found a warped bearing so I had my buddy rebuild the bottom end. It cost a lot of freakin' money.

Tell me about it. That's why I haven't touched it in 6 months. Money pit status. [emoji383][emoji383]

A 4Runner, or your 4Runner?!
How far is Monmouth from you?
Dude that bought my '97 flew down from AK, hopped in, and drove it 2,500 miles back home. Had right at 260k miles on it.
I'd hop in my '01, and drive it cross-country tomorrow, so I'm curious why you'd say that.
Edit-
Wait, he said he thought he saw you on 99w, not in Monmouth. Now I'm real curious [emoji23]

Mostly because my 4runner had been blown up for 4 months already when he saw me lol. [emoji23]

been a few years, still wondering what the big surprise is!
Gonna be disappointed lol, I didn't realize I hadn't touched this thread. Haven't really driven the OG 4Runner since it died in 2017.

It does now run and drive again with some pretty damn good parts. It's sporting the low mile rebuilt bottom end out of my totaled single cab (2 years ago) with a freshly rebuilt head, completely reworked stock harness, evap delete, stainless header and full custom exhaust, K&N intake, etc. Basically as good as a stock N/A 3RZ can be.

Stock running gear at the moment. I'll be robbing the coilovers and some other things off it for my "new" 4Runner very soon. Check out that thread if you want to see what I'm up to nowadays, it's a much better read I'm sure, though not terribly long yet. It's "Saved from the Scrapyard: Ressurecting a 500$ 3rd Gen"

At the moment the 4Runner needs relatively little to drive, but the exterior is fairly haggard and I'm unsure of it's purpose in my hoopty fleet. It needs a brake line, some work on the tranny crossmember, an ignition switch, and a heater core line, that's really it.

If you're not feeling it after reading that I've basically abandoned my 4Runner for it's 500$ automatic twin, don't worry. I'm also the proud owner of a 1st gen Tacoma double cab that I scooped up for 3500$, which is now sporting mid-travel, 35s on scs wheels, armor, Sparcos and a supercharger. Soon to be longbed swapped and 5 speed swapped as well. Really should've kept up on a build thread for it, but I'm being selfish with the info, haven't really ever even taken a Pic since it was near stock.

Looking back those guys actually guessed the surprise too. I was gathering information and building a parts list for a 1JZ swap. Abandoned due to lack of funds when the parts list hit 12,000$ and was still climbing, I will eventually do it though, maybe not in this shell.
