Dash Cam Install

No, I just ran the wire along the headliner and down the drivers side a-pillar. Once you have the trim piece off there's access around the dash that will allow you to drop the wiring down to the fuse box.
I used an Add-a-Circuit kit so I just used it in place of the sunroof fuse

Look at what the draw is- shouldn't be more than 15-20 amps.

Thanks! This confirms my "there's no way these guys are running straight 12V into these things" theory. I guess I took the phrase hard-wire a little too literally in certain cases.
I did look at that cable but the problem I face is the Garmin dashcam I have (from my previous car) apparently has like 2 pins that are jumped and almost every regular mini usb plug will cause it to think its in data mode or whatever and I'd have to press cancel every time I start up.

Just want to say thanks. Those parts worked flawlessly (although anyone reading this may have to splice some wire to make it reach the fuse box).
20 minutes and it was installed.

I do not have a T4R, but have been running a dashcam for the last 15 months or so. I have a usb battery pack with a 2A out that has velcro on it.
Basically, when I get in the vehicle, I mount the usb pack to the inside roof of my car and run the unit from there. It's a 15,000 mAh unit, and I could probably run it for 12+hours before the unit dies.

My old "No Name" dash cam died after 2 years of use, so I'm on the market for a new one. I was looking online for what I can get with a good performance of day and night recording and not being on expensive side. Last one was $50 shipped from China. I need 2 cams for my and my wife's 4Runners, so I'm on a budget.
I was about to buy Auto-Vox D1, but then found some articles in Internetc about DOD LS-series. I'm thinking on may be getting LS370W as it seems fairly priced and have Sony optics and sensor.
Does anyone use DOD LSxxx cameras? Any thoughts or opinions? Should I check other alternatives?

blackboxmycar.com is a canadian website that has AWESOME cams and even more impressive videos and customer service. I bought my blackvue dr650gw-2ch off there and i love it. I have the same one that a member is selling over in the non-t4r items subforum.

I'm not familiar with that cam in particular. I like to have a screen on it, so I can do adjustments and check functionally right at the cam. The member asking USD $300 which comes to CDN $400 + shipping, so it will be more in 450-500 range at the end. I need 2 dash cams and I was hoping to spend 200 cdn or less for each... This should be a good cam, but unfortunately out of my budget. I can get DOD LS370W for CDN $169 from local Costco, and their return policy is relatively good.
Thanks for the link to blackboxmycar, I'll check them up as I'm still open to suggestions.

Just in case somebody wonders - my dashcam is still alive, so if it dies I probably get similar one - for under $100 I think it's a decent device.

Below is a link to the dash cam that I have. I have 2 on my car, one in the front and one in the back. The link below is to the one I use for my back dash cam. It has the option to get the GPS logger as well which will track your speed and location. There is also a "interest" button as well which you can push to lock data so it doesn't get overwritten. Useful if you have a dumb driver you want to report but don't want to risk the data getting overwritten.

Hardwire to the mirror-without cutting car wires!
I wanted to jump into the conversation. I've hardwired several dash cams in my day, the most recent in my 2015 Limited.
The dash cam I installed was the 70mai smart wifi dash cam, which enables you to wirelessly view footage on your phone, among other things:

I purchased a hardwire kit from amazon similar to the below:

See all my pictures below. I started my taking down the sunglass holder console so I could stash the hardwire kit transformer and extra wires.
Since I was going to grab power from the back of the rearview mirror, I had to wirenut in some extra length wire to the hardwire kit. The low voltage wire I used was stiff enough to feed down through the wiring sleeve that feeds the mirror. So, I fed the two new lv wires from the headliner down through the sleeve directly into the wiring harness in the back of the mirror. The wire was also stiff enough to stick directly into the correct wiring slots-- and stay put! No electrical tape, no cutting the T4R's wires, nothing!
It has been 3 months since installation and the connection has not loosened once. Solid metal-on-metal contact in the back of the wiring harness.
Then, I simply plugged in the dash cam's usb into the hardwire kit's usb that I stuck out of the headliner. Done!
Does anyone know how you keep the images from rotating the wrong way? Frustrating.
