Dash Light ?

Hello all,

I'm 4 days into my new 05 SR5 4WD and it seems that the dash lights are always on. In the bright sunlight the dash cluster has a *glow* to it as if the lights are on. Are they?? Never had this feature on another car so this is why I ask.

The dash lights always stay on in the 2004 and 2005 4Runners. The reason for this is that many 2003 owners complained that it was difficult to read the gauges in low light. Just so you know, there is a little green light bulb icon that illuminates on your dashboard to tell you that your headlights are on.

As a sidenote, anyone with a 4th gen made before this started can get this via a TSB that was released. I don't want it, but others may...you never know.

I don't have the green light. Is it because I have a 2003 or because the LED is burnt out or something? I've seen pics of other people's green light and have always wondered why I don't have it.

The only time I see any of my HVAC controls is at night with the lights on. During the day selecting the right temp/combo based on the light being visible is a crap shoot. It is one of the worst designed features of the new Runner. Some days it is like playing whack a mole.

I like the feature.

I had this problem with my M3 so I installed silver faces.

It is because you have a 2003. They started putting that green icon on the 2004 models because the 4Runner's came standard with the dashboard light always staying on.

Sac State, only the dashboard lights are supposed to stay on. All other lights go on with the headlights (radio, HVAC).

Mark, I was referring to the HVAC controls only. With the sunroof shade pulled back the active 'illuminated' HVAC indicator light is impossible to see. Is it on, is it off? And then sometimes it just selects what it wants to do.
One minute it is on face/feet then it is on feet only.
I never use the auto feature, always manually selecting the control.

Oh yeah! I see what you are talking about. Mine does the same thing and it really irritates me. I find myself controlling it manually most of the time!
