Dash lights

When i bought this truck the dimmer switch for the gauges was broken and doesnt work. The lights are on so i was super concerned with it. The thing is though that when my headlights are off the light behind the display for the a/c is on but when i turn the headlights on it goes off and i dont have anything. Also the back light behind the actual controls for a/c are never on but i have the little individual lights for what selected.

Does this sound like it could all be coming from that broken dimmer switch? or do u think the lights or the displays are out? also is there any way to just replace the lights or do i have to replace that whole a/c control unit? Also is there a good source for little things like that dimmer switch besides the dealer, the dealer wants like 150 bucks and that seems kind of high.

Its all from the dimmer switch. Mine went out and I had the exact same thing happen. I could not locate one outside of the dealer so I was able to jump pins on the back to get the the lights to come back on. I no longer have control of the brightness, but theyre on so it works for me. I also had some bulbs go out, which are very easy to replace in the ac unit. You can pick them up at radioshack. I dont remember the part number, but someone here should be able to chime in.

Ok im glad to hear that, i was thinking it would be the dimmer switch. Ive had them go out before on other vehicles and do some weird stuff. Does the switch just pop straight out?

Well this is what I just found as well.. Hopefully the plug connector is the same:

Thanks, ill probably give that one a try for 30 bucks. Hopefully it works even though it says 05 and up. Im not sure if the connector changed from 04 to 05. Ill pull mine first and check and see what the connector looks like.
 
Thanks awdjunkie, I ordered that one off eBay rights after u suggested it. Got it yesterday and installed it and everything works great now. Glad that's all the problem was.
