Day time running lights

I need to know if anyone knows how too diable the day time runnig lights on a 05 4runner. Thank you

replace your relay with a non-drl relay. i'm sure someone on here without drl would like to swap with you.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds easy. I just need to know where the relay is. And is it a stderd turn signel realy I can buy or a toyota realy.:

i hear the dealer can disable them too with an oem scan tool. that may be a cheaper solution for you if they don't charge you a service fee. it's in this yotatech thread:

Thanks again My dealer told me they won't do it becuse of liabilty.B.S. The relay is the way to go thank you again.

where do you live that they won't disable DRL? i know canada requires it. another free option. reading through the DRL thread, this is what Rando (our in house T4R electrician) wrote. apparently you can disable the DRL by cutting or disconnecting the green/red wire:



How to disable DRLs

BTW, I just confirmed the following solution to disable DRLs.

1) Pull the relay/fuse block to gain access to the DRL flasher

2) Disconnect the 12 pin connector (D2) from the flasher.

3) Disengage the secondary locking device / terminal retainer on D2. You have to pry it up (but don't remove it) with a sharp pointed tool.

4) Release and remove the green wire with red strip (pin 12 in the corner). You need to use a sharp pointed tool to release the primary retainer clip while you're pulling gently on the wire from the back side. It comes out easily if you have the retainers properly released.

5) Tape off the wire you pulled in step 4. Reattach D2 to the flasher and test.

6) Reassemble everything. Your done! The procedure is reversible and/or you can install a switch betewen the harness and flasher pin 12 to enable/disable the automatic DRL function.


For the hard core guys that don't mind cutting their factory harness, you can simplify this procedure. Just cut the green/red wire. You're done.

I've performed and tested this modifcation and believe it to work. But still, you do it at your own risk. I take no responsibility for anything that happens to you or your truck if you try this.

1) Reprogramming with the OEM scan tool -- some dealers won't do it.

2) Swap out the DRL flasher with the standard flasher.

3) Perform the mod I developed and reiterated in the post above this one -- do at your own risk.

Rando, do you have your DRLs on a on/off switch? I wouldn't mind putting in a real switch in one of the dummy switches to do that.

No, I don't but it's almost a no-brainer to add in the switch as I described. Since the wire/flasher is so conveniently located next to the switch blanks, you don't even need run much wire.

Post pics if you decide to do it -- I know others would be interested in seeing how it turns out.

I'd swap with you if you send it first.......which would kinda suck because you probably shouldn't drive without turn signals. I already have one ordered from Carson Toyota, but they probably could cancel my order if you do want to swap.

You could also contact Yosmany over at yotatech forum. He had a non-DRL flasher for sale a few months back -- dunno if he still has it or not.

Thanks for all the replys. I think I'm going to do the relay swap. I'll hang on to the old one. For when I decide to sell.
