Daystar Budget 1" Spacer Install

I read many threads here about the best way to level my 2007 Sport 4x4 and figured I'd start out with the 1" Budget Spacer Kit from Daystar. I picked it up from 4Wheelparts.com for around $45.

The kit is different than the one that Daystar shows on their website. It now comes with 6 stud extensions instead of replacement studs. This made it a whole lot easier than taking apart the strut & spring.

If you are going to attempt this install, I would use Bulldog's write-up as a guide.

Although, he mentions removing the tie-rods, I did not have to do this. I did un-bolt the sway arm connections on both sides from the spindle and rotate it up out of the way. This allowed me to remove the strut much easier.

Also, I borrowed a pitman arm puller from the local parts store and this made separating the upper A-arm ball joint very simple.

Make sure you remove the brake line brackets from the spindle and upper A-arm for additional clearance.

Definitely use Bulldog's technique of the up side down bottle jack when re-connecting the upper A-arm ball joint. Made it simple.

This install wasn't that bad but it's not as easy as their instructions make it appear. Plus, if you're doing this in the driveway using a jack and jack-stands, it's killer on your knees, back and shoulders (if you're 45 like me). The 3 nuts on the top of the strut are killers. The 2 closest to you aren't too bad, but the inner most nut is brutal to remove.

Awesome. I had originally ordered the Daystar 2.5/1.5 kit...but when I realized you could get front 5100s for $170 I thought heck I'll kill two birds with one stone. Nice though...I like that.

The install sucks regardless of which kit you buy. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and my father is a master mechanic with 35+ years experience and both of us worked on mine since Thursday night just finished at lunch on Saturday. I did have some bolts that required torching off though. Toyotas hate road salt.

Then, alignment shop says they can't unloosen the bolts to do my alignment. They are frozen in place. So now I'm permanently out of spec. Ugh...

Sounds like you need a new alignment shop that owns a set of torches....just a little heat does wonders....i just installed my 2.5 / 1.5 kit and checked the alignment, was not affected at all....

singleshot: Did you have to cut any of the original studs to add the extension studs? I will be adding the same spacer kit and the direction provided mention cutting the original studs to around 3/4".

you shouldn't have to cut anything.

I'm 55, an prob a 3.5 wrencher on scale of 10.

I did all four corners w Daystar 1/1.5 in 8 hours alone. Creative pushing pulling w 2x4 and long pipe for leverage.
Only swaybar removed, but not steering at all as I can remember. Not something I want to do again, but certainly do-able for barely average mechs like me.

Well, my alignment certainly is off. Steering feels totally different. It's almost that same binding feeling you get when you try to use 4-high on pavement. Eventually I will have to get it done when it's time for new tires.

And the tech said if you heat them you can ruin the bushings. If you ruin the bushings the whole a-arm has to come out. So heat is a no-no for this project. If you had a plasma cutter you could do it...but how many people have plasma cutters?

Apparently this problem is rampant with Toyotas. In japan, there's no such thing as rust treating your auto parts.

If you know what you are doing you only have to heat the bolt for about 15 seconds, I am a ASE master tech and own a large repair shop. Of your wheel is binding as you say then is say they pulled your cv shaft apart on accident. Lol it should not be doing this with 1" lift. You should not need alignment and any experienced tech should be able to remove those bolts. I just did my kit in 2 hours flat plus alignment plus removing my "seized" bolts.

So these 1" budget spacers equal a 2" lift?

I love the fact the have those new top nuts. Very nice!

Can anyone tell me the total lift?

And what part number did you order. When i go to their site, our vehicle doesnt even pop up any more.

1" spacer so it'll be ~2" total lift. Part number KT09117BK.
Ordered. My first lift of any vehicle at any time and I have been through some cars. LOL.

I figured this would get me started on a level until I decide to go with a complete coilover set up if necessary. Dont think I will ever need it but when my oem set up wears out or I want a better ride, I'm on it.

Now, anyone in south jersey want to help install. I can cook up a mean steak and provide plenty of cold ones.

I'm happy to help as long as you promise to do the rear strut mount nut lol. I'm in philly. I installed the 2.5/1.5 on my truck.

Received the budget boost spacer the other day, and it is the new EZ install type w/ stud extenders. The instructions say you have to cut down the existing studs to 3/4". Has anyone else had to do this?
