No I dont believe thats the case because this shop is a L.I. premier 4x4 mod shop that has been in business for 24+ years and it was the owner that I was speaking to. He takes out more leveling kits then he installs because people dont realize that the suspension is set up from the factory like it is for a reason. He did say I could be lucky and have nothing at all happen, but wouldnt chance it to have bigger problems later. He is not short of business by any stretch and has many, many toyotas under his belt. I commend him for his honesty b/c he was just "warning" me of what could and probably happen and left the decision up to me. I still want it but not 100 now, I have that doubt now.
 
i find it hard to believe that if its a "primier 4x4 shop", like you say, that they would be against any lifting. maybe its just the use of coil spring spacers in lifting they dont agree with, if thats the case, yes , there are/can be some issues with theyre use. he did say you may not have problems, right? so, if useing them is out, & you still want a lift, & can afford it, take out the the xreas, & put in new coilovers (adjustable) & lift springs,new shocks out back, or go for the OME kit. you can read 100s of reasons for & against lifting, the fact of the matter is theres almost always some kind of trade off when modifing anything, so, if you want to lift your ride, theres only but a few choices you have. you asked the guys about lifts & they told you what they thought, the decision is now up to you. goodluck

After reading J.A.'s page & (2) other Threads last night...it's making me think twice.

1) I didn't know there was an old & new kit.
2) J.A.'s mentioned that it may overextend things.

Since I'm envy envious...I think I'm still going to get the kit that J.A. got. If you've gotten a chance to get to know him, read his page & see how detail & meticulous he is...you wouldn't doubt him.

And I know he spent countless hours reading on it before diving into it. The same goes w/ everything he does.
 
Well I went to another 4x4 shop and got the complete oposite answer as the first one. They deal in daystar and readylift all the time and love em both. They said the leveling kits are great and should be no problem at all. Soooo I am back in business. The 2nd shop I went to knew exactly who I went to see first without saying shop name and even stated who I spoke to. I'll find out Tuesday on prices of the tires, BFG. Looks like this is giong to happen. Thanks to all for the info.

toytec is metal up front a poly in the rear. it should even the truck out better than cornfed with 2 in the rear. stock 4th gens sit 2 inches lower in the front then the rear so 3 up ront gives 1 inch higher than stock rear. then add 1.5 in the rear and the rear will only sit up .5 inch. i got the toytec but still need some time to install it. pm me for a discount code at toytec.

I have been looking at all this stuff also. I am new to Toyota and have no idea what to do either. I was going to keep it stock because its the wifes but I have never had anything stock. I think Im going with the toytec 3 inch with all springs with 265/70/17 with stock wheels then add some chrome ones later. But once I look at other rides maybe just do a 2.5 space on the front with new tires.
 
I bought the CF after hours upon hours of reading and have had no issues whatsoever with the parts. Theres a writeup about it in my sig.
 
i wanted all toytec springs but couldnt afford it plus im 2wd so it doesnt really matter. its an evreyday driver and weekend trail truck
 
Cornfed 3/2 Lift

I installed the Cornfed 3/2 lift on my '06 Limited V8 4X4 4Runner and it is AWESOME ! C&c'd billet aluminum pieces up front with top grade hardware and the UHDN spacer for the rear. It took me and a friend about 3 hours total with simple hand tools. A compressor is nice but not a must. You will also need a spring compressor. I chose the Cornfed kit over the daystar and others who use plastic or low grade nylon for the spacers. These types can compress over time and you start to lose some of the lift. Not so with the Cornfed. Billet aluminum won't be compressing anytime soon. I bought the lift through Burtman Industries and was VERY impressed with the customer service. Jason Burtman is just a phone call away with any questions you may have. He's a nice guy and very patient. I would HIGHLY recommend the Cornfed kit to anyone looking to lift thier 'Runner. The 3/2 kit also works with both XREAS and non-XREAS equipped 4Runners. Mine is non-xreas. I replaced all four shocks during the install and ride quality is excellent. I'd say about 20% stiffer up front (due to the increased spring compression, I assume) and the rear feels like stock. I wish the rear was a little more firm, however. I think I will look into upgrading the rear springs . . .
