Daystar on the way, tire size question

I just ordered a Daystar 2.5" lift (2.5" front, 2.0" rear), and I am about to get new tires after the lift installation. My question is what tire size to get. I have looked at other threads about tire sizes, but everyone on here seems to have the 17" wheels, while my car has 16" wheels. Does anyone know what size would fit this lift with ZERO rubbing on the control arms?

And to make it even harder, I am looking for a more affordable tire like a Destination A/T or something. I'd like BFGs but they're just too expensive for the amount of off-roading I do (trail-ride once a month, sometimes twice a month). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome. Destination A/T's in 265/75/16 will work. The BFG is the only tire reported to rub due to it's very square shape. 265/70/17 and 265/75/16 are so close to identical in size you'd be hard pressed to measure any difference. With that said anything that's written about the 265/70/17 applies.

Let's take your tire size that you're looking to upgrade to: 265/75-16.

265 = width of the tire in mm.

75 = sidewall size based on % of width. Therefore your sidewall would be 75% of 265 (roughly 198.75 mm).

16 = obviously the size of of your wheel and the opening size of the tire.

265 equals the mm measurement of the widest part of the tire. The 2nd number is call 'aspect ratio' and it's a % value.

A 265/75 has a sidewall that is 75% of 265mm. You can calculate like this: 265x.75=198.75mm ...198.75mm/25.4=7.82inches ...7.82inches x 2(top & bottom of tire)=15.64inches ...15.64inches + 16inches (for the rim)= 31.64inches total outside diameter in inches.

For some reason, as precise as all that seems, there are very slight variations between tire brands. Brand X may be 31.72" and brand Y may be 31.58"

I will certainly post pictures of the lift without new tires, although I have a feeling it will be just a bit goofy looking. Right now I'm running 265/70/16 michelin street tires that came on the car, so I'm guessing they'll be a bit on the small side for that much lift.

Thank you. I was looking into the Daystar 2.5"/1.5" kit at one of the shops down here. I wanted to see what it would look like because i don't really have the money to buy bigger tires yet and wanted to see before i got the lift. I do have the 17's so it'll fill up the space a little bit more. Can't wait to see it.

Alright so I have the lift, and I am scheduled to have it installed on Friday. But now I am getting worried. Is my car going to look goofy? I won't be able to afford new tires for a couple of months, and I am running 265/70/16s right now. I know people have the 265/70/17s and they look good but the rim adds an inch to the tire size. So basically, I'm worried that my tires are going to look like donuts and my truck is going to look bad. Anybody have a guess as to whether this is going to look decent?

It will look fine with stocks for a couple of months. Will it look better with the new rubber, of course. But you wont look goofy. Other users on here will disagree, but I think it's ok temporarily.

There are threads with before and after shots of the daystar 2.5 - do a member search of J.A. Plus you'll have a better appreciation for the new tires after cruising with the lifted T4R on stocks for a little bit. Let not your heart be troubled.
