Just want to see if there is a height difference between the old ds 2.5/1.5 kit and the new top out 2.5/1.5 kit. Some people said the old one is more of a 3/2 and the new one is in fact 2.5/1.5.

The older does lift slightly more but stiffens the ride. The newer top out spacer soaks up the bumps like a boss and rocks it. Just my 2 cents ;)

thanks for the info! I went ahead and ordered the 2.5/1.5 top out kit. With plans to add fj springs when I find them

You probably don't care about this thread anymore, but search the posts I've made and you'll find that I got the old spacer kit and thus recieved a 3/2 lift.

It leveled it out damn near perfect, but was still looking for some front rake, so I ordered some OME 895E and it gave me the perfect stance I was looking for.

To late to order the preload/topout style now but thanxx for the info. not sure if i should do a diff drop with the daystar yet.

How much will this cost? Seriously?

I don't want to sound like a disbelieving philistine here, but just today I went down to a reputable, local 4X4 store/shop to buy a tow strap for the Pine Barrens blast on Saturday, Nov 17, and while there I asked how much a top out spacer lift would cost for just the front only. 2.5" daystar, specifically. Turns out the parts alone are $280, and with labor and a necessary front wheel alignment after the spacer kit install, total price is $530.

Here's my question: Is a 2.5" rake adjustment worth over $500? Maybe I'm just getting old, but that seems like a lot of cash for not much lift. Of course, I could be wrong, which is why I'm asking this question in the first place (!). So what say you all? Worth it? Wasteful? Rip off?

You can get the full kit on amazon for 150 and install your self with a few basic tools. Then you'd need the alignment.

If the $500 is including the daystar kit, install and then the alignment that isn't too bad. Around me the alignment is $100, kit cost $150-200 so figure you are paying for 3hrs labor for install which is about right. Maybe even cheap depending on the area.

I called 4wheel parts as a price benchmark and they wanted $690 for the kit, installed and aligned.

If you have a free Saturday you can go it yourself in about 4 hrs. It took me about 5hrs the first time will all hand tools. Air tools and a good breaker bar help, the 2nd time I did it in under 4hrs.

the installation cost me 220 and the kit 150, the way my mechanic installed it, i did not needed an alignment, so saved on that.

kit was $210 from a local shop (canada everything is more $) with 3 days shipping and it will be installed by myself so total cost with install and alignment will be under $300 for a 2.5/1.5 lift. Could have went for the amazon at $160 with shipping to my parents cabin in whitefish montana but it would be 3 weeks before ill be there next and it was not worth the wait for me

Nice... let me know how the install goes... I got the same kit but haven't had a chance to install it. I thought most places were charging more than $90 for an alignment.

I asked a dealer here how much to install and it was around $800... I'm a bit leery to attempt this on my own but guess I'll give it a shot.

Alex, could I please have....

:thanks:

the name, address, phone # and email address of that mechanic? There's no reason I can't drive up there from MD and have him do the work. I especially like the part about not needing a wheel alignment afterward. Many thanx.

You're going to need an alignment, doesn't matter how it's installed. The end result is the suspension geometry has changed and this WILL cause the alignment to be off.

I have the new kit. Bought on amazon and installed myself. Got an alignment but could not get enough caster. Later bought the SPC UCA to correct the camber and installed myself. Got aligned again. Drives straight as an arrow.

Do you know what specs they were using for the alignment? Everything I've read suggests you should be able to get adequate caster numbers with 2.5" lift and stock upper control arms.
