All,
I've been reading, researching, and looking at 4runners for months now. I'd love to meet up with some owners when they are talking shop and learn a thing or two or three. Plus, maybe I could buy folks a beer or three while they let me poke around their trucks...?
Well, you think, who is this dude who thinks we'll just let him put his mitts on our babies? A dude who will pay for a few drinks, of course. But, also, here is how I got to this point. Had a great Jeep Comanche years ago, but have spent a decade now driving around in Pruises and an XC70. Spent a long time looking at restoring an FJ80, but reality set in. Meaning, the wife and kids didn't like the idea of sitting in an old noisy ass truck every time we headed to the mountains, beach, fishing holes, etc. Thought about pickups, but ended up trying an SR5 out for a weekend trip and everybody loved it. Thing is, I just can't square up my need for a 3rd row with my desire for more truck and off-road capability. Truth is, the truck will be a bit of a DD, but plenty of driving in bad weather up in the Blue Ridge and hopefully a bit of beach play in OBX. Our XC70 is great and the Haldex AWD has never failed in crap conditions, but that wagon can't handle the steepness of some of the road we travel on when things get bad. New winter tires would help, but angle of approach and ground clearance are just not as good as the 4Runner, not surprisingly.
In any case, would love to meet some locals in person and pick their brains. And, as I said, I'm happy to bring beer or bourbon or whatever you want.
Thanks,
Dave
