I was a mechanic at a Volvo Dealer for what felt like forever. When Volvo wanted dealers to up grade their facilities (usually meaning a total rebuild) they would offer the rebuilding dealerships only x dollars bonus back per car sold to a cap in the future. So if you tore down your building and rebuilt to their new standards you pretty much got most your money back that way. Also new buildings alway ring up bigger sales. This is one reason you see so many dealerships rebuilt. Ours was done ground up twice that way. So between the normal holdback and the building upgrade holdback and anything they can rip you for in the finance booth there was plenty of profit regardless of the invoice.
