I had my 2010 4Runner in to the dealership last week for full Transmission replacement per TSB-0089-12. This is the 1st to 2nd gear "shudder" that affected a certain range of VINs.
It is a long story, but based upon previous service experience (both dealer and indy), I told them to be sure and not leave any bolts missing, cover plates off or wires not tied up. I told them I had a lift, and that I would be checking.
Well, it took them 3 full days to do the replacement. The last day I got a call saying that they had "accidentally put some parts on backward, and that those parts got broken during the suspension alignment". Suspension alignment? For a transmission replacement?
I was in a hurry when I picked it up, and the work order had no mention of other parts, just a REMANUFACTURED transmission, and a new "spiral cable". It was late, so I left, and the 1st to 2nd gear shudder is indeed gone. The rest of original "indecisiveness" of this transmission is all still there, but I guess that is apparently "normal".
It's been a few days now, but I finally took a look under it. I can't remember exactly what it is supposed to look like, but it is clear that there is a large cover plate missing. There are two tabs sticking out from the engine plate, and the transmission pan is completely exposed. See pic below. I was hoping someone here could take a picture of a stock 5th Gen SR5 undercarriage here, so I have something to approach the dealer on.
