Dealership smashed my 4R!

what dealership was it?

Stevenson Toyota West. They're the closest to my house (I live around C-470 and Bowles) so that's where I've been taking it. Again, I don't want to sling mud because my previous experiences with them (albeit, only a couple) have been good ones. I've always said "it's not if a company screws up, but how they resolve the problem" so it's time for me to eat my own dog food.

I just left a message for the service manager asking if they would throw in a 1" spacer lift with installation as compensation for the accident. I'll wait and see.....

I'm not surprised this happened there. In fact, I was guessing it was them. This kind of crap happens there all the time!!! I despise that dealer! Plus, their parts prices are almost always the highest in town.

They try to bend my in-laws over every time they take their Sequoia in for anything (they live like 2 minutes away). I usually wind up doing the work for them instead. Measly stuff too. They want almost $300 just to fix the power antenna mast!!! (same problem the 3rd gens have)

I live near Wadsworth and Ken Caryl. Burt Toyota on Broadway has been pretty good for me, although it has only been for parts so far. Their quotes for service (specifically timing belt and water pump) were a lot better than Stevinson.

Also, I can't stand the politics of the Stevinson family. They are a big part of the reason that Cabela's isn't open in Wheat Ridge yet, and may never be. And don't get me started about what happened with the land (and adjacent land) that Colorado Mills mall now sits on... :chair: :cursin:

Sounds like I might have to start going there. I bought my 4R through Automotive Avenues (who buys their new Toyota's through Burt) and the part of Littleton I live in puts me closer to Stevenson than Burt. I've only brought it to Stevenson for a couple of small warranty issues because I do my own oil changes, etc. The more I can stay away from the dealer, the better.

Back in 1986 I bought my first new car a 86 Subaru Brat ,nice little car.I went to dealer to do first regular scheduled service. they treated me real nice coffee and doughnuts ,TV in the waiting area.When the tech was done he drove from the back of the dealership to the front where I was standing waiting for him with the paid recpt in hand.he exited the driveway and got creamed by a Ford F-150, totalled the car right in front of my eyes. T-ed it up in the drivers side .Worse is I saw it coming and could not stop it .The dealer got me a brand new Brat and gave me free rental (a cadillac) for the month it took to get the new Brat.
And as for the tech .....who cares!

Well, things just keep getting better.....

I just got a call from Stevenson Toyota, apparently the body shop they brought my 4R to, backed it into another car and F'd it up AGAIN!!!! This time they broke the rear tail light and screwed up the bumper....again.

Would it be totally out of line to ask their GM to trade me straight across for a new '08 with the same options, etc. Or am I piss'n in the wind???

Holy crap man, what are the odds. Sorry to hear about your issues, I hope everything turns out ok. I doubt they would trade you for a new 4r but it never hurts to ask.

Shoot, even if I paid the difference, I would be open to that. But I've put a lot of time and money into this 4R (see my sig) so it would suck to start over again, even if it was with a brand new 4R.

I did confirm with the service manager that they are going to install a Toytec 1" spacer lift for free for having to go through this whole mess. I have to say, their service manager has been cool throughout this whole process.

I left their general manager a colorful message as well. Haven't heard back from him yet....

The GM's never do anything. i had an issue with Audi and how they f'd me on a $900 brake job. he was like "oh well" so anyone in Seattle looking for a VW or Audi avoid University VW and Audi like the plague they suck.

Hah, the gas mileage on the Prius has been the only benefit to this whole mess.

You're probably right, getting anywhere with the GM is probably a long shot. As long as the repair looks good (they did confirm that they are using an OE Toyota tail light, and the bumper did not need to be replaced) I will probably just take my 1" leveling kit and be done with it.

Sorry to hear about all of your troubles GIG. I was astounded to hear what they did the first time around and when you broke the news that it got backed into again, my eyes almost popped out of my head!! If you would be so kind, could you answer a couple of questions for a newbie?

1. What was the service you were getting done? I know you said the auxilary TSB, but what does that entail? The reason I ask is because when playing my Ipod through the auxiliary jack, I get a lot of problems.

2. Do dealerships normally install aftermarket mods? I would like to get a spacer lift installed as well and was wondering if it's fairly common for dealers to install them. Thanks in advance!

Thanks, man. To answer your questions...

1. The main reason I brought my 4R in was to have the Auxiliary line input TSB performed. Basically, when you are using an iPod or MP3 devise while it is charging through the cigarette lighter charger, it creates a hissing/whining noise, especially when you are accelerating. The fix is to put a line filter to prevent AC hum from going through to the stereo. I believe they install the filter somewhere on the line in the console between the jack and the stereo.

2. I don't know how many dealers perform after market mods. I wouldn't have been going through the dealer for the spacer lift if they weren't throwing it in for free at this point. Their parts department said they could order Toytec products and their service manager said they could install it. He also said they did a lot of 3" OME lifts on Taco's, 4R's, and FJ's, so apparently doing after market lifts and mods isn't outside of their scope.

Well, I just got off the phone with the GM at Stevenson. He was very apologetic and asked me what he could do to rectify the situation. We discussed the Toytec spacer lift that they agreed to order and install for free. They are also going to give me a $200 credit to be used anywhere at Stevenson. Rest assured, I will be spending that money at the parts counter, not in the service department.

I have to admit, everyone I have dealt with at both Stevenson and their body shop (I talked to the head cheese at both) have been very understanding and accommodating. It doesn't make up for their screw ups, but at least they seem to be putting their best foot forward.

The plot thickens. I still haven't got my car back, so stay tuned......

No problem. What you are experiencing is the cord is not interfacing with the jack completely. It could be because of the cord (even though you tried replacing it) or maybe the jack got pushed into the console too far and you can't plug it in all the way. That is what is causing a stereo signal to only be going through one channel, or side.

Make sure the jack isn't pushed into the console too far and maybe look into changing the jack. Keep us posted, good luck!
