Dealing w/ Another Dealership for service other than where you purchased?

What's going on everyone... So quick question, was hoping you guys could help with a concern I have had since purchasing. This is my 1st toyota ever and I know people rave about the service and toyota care, etc, etc. So I guess the 1st part to my question, is how has your service history been?

Second, and my biggest concern is/was when I purchased the truck was that I had it shipped from a dealership a few hundred miles away (Maryland to New York) So obviously, I can not have the truck serviced there. Has anyone else done this? If so, have you had any issues getting service, or check that GOOD service from a local dealer, since you didn't purchase the truck through them. I know they say you can go anywhere, I am just curious...

No issues. I've had warranty work done at dealers far from home. You may want to introduce yourself at the new dealer but I would guess they make more money off service than the actual sale of the truck so they will be happy to add you as a customer. The truck's service records are kept in a Toyota data base and can be accessed online meaning that if you get your truck serviced at a dealer, any dealer, the record will follow the truck.

My dealer does ok but like everything in life its your responsibility to make sure all is well after service.
 
How about getting work done at a Lexus dealership? One is opening really really close to me and I trust those guys more than the Toyota techs thanks to my old Lexus(always had fantastic services.)
 
yes you can get service work done at Lexus. My wife has an ES and I have a 4R and I have taken both to Lexus and Toyota numerous times without issue
 
I buy where I buy, and get it serviced where I get it serviced. If they don't like it, tough. If the service isn't good, I post what happened on the internet and take my business elsewhere.

It's not complicated, and the two free oil changes and six free tire rotations from Toyota are basically invoiced to Toyota corporate by the dealership, so if they get huffy, they're just being pricks.
 
I bough a lot of my cars in next door state from where I live, but I service them at a local dealership with no problem. You just have to schedule an appointment and go in. The dealership get reimbursed from Toyota factory when you service the car at the dealer, so they will be happy to have you. When I bough my 4r they ask me to service at their dealer so they can make the money back I took from them. Which is no problem for me because it is only 4 minutes away from my house.
 
I had big issues with the local dealership's sales dept and ended up purchasing my 4R from PA. The local service dept (CT) is excellent, however, having had experience servicing my old 4R there for years. I already had a transmission problem on my new 4R and instead of picking it apart and trying to figure out what was wrong, they promptly replaced the whole transmission without issue.
 
I would guess there shouldn't be any problems.

I have done services on vehicles at multiple dealerships in the past, it was always where I felt was convenient to me.

I haven't done anything on my 4Runner yet since it's still so new, but they did ask me if I was going to let Toyota do the service, and I honestly told them "Yes, but most likely not here. I have a dealership that's about 10 minutes or so from my home, and they'll likely be getting my business."...I think the finance manager took it harder than my salesman...lol

For me it was an issue of distance. One dealership is about 30-45 minutes away, the other is 10. Seems like a no brainer to me.
 
No issues here, I Purchased my TE from Maroone Toyota in Dade county FL in 2010 and moved to Yuma AZ. I've had great service from Alexander Toyota here in Yuma, but okay service in Toyota of Temecula CA. No questions or gripes from either dealership, All service records are maintained in a database that any dealership can pull up.
 
Bought in Johnstown, PA
Registered in Watertown, NY
First Service in Kansas City, Mo
Second Service in Killeen, Tx

States driven through:
PA - NY - OH - MI - Upper MI - MN - IN - IL - KS - CO - IA - OK - TX - SD - NE

Truck turns 1yr old in two months. No issues.

Go ahead and buy the [new] Lexus, and when the Toyota dealer refuses to [warranty] service it, you just tell 'em some guy 'named' Stifler from the interwebz said they'd service it. I'm sure he knows more about running a dealership than they do.

I think a distinction needs to be made here between "service" work and "warranty" work.

No Lexus service manager with a brain will turn down paid service work, but I have to wonder if they're even authorized to do Toyota warranty work.

not sure what angle you are coming from... I own a 4 runner and a Lexus have had both service and warranty work done at the Lexus service department because it is closer.... the only issue I have run into is they had to have a part sent over from Toyota which added about an hour to my visit... So in other words i have first hand experience with what was asked.... and you?
