Looking at a trail, dealer has a 13 trail with kdss and navi and giving me about 3k off so about 38500. I really like the 14's and feel like it would be worth going to a 14' trail. Has anyone also been at the dealer where they try to sell you a car on the lot? I haven't negotiated too much yet but i wouldn't pay more then 35k for the 13'. Just not sure if i'll be missing out on not getting a 14' anyone else feel that way.

If you like the 2014 then I would just go for it. You may end up being disappointed if you don't. Even if with the refresh out, I doubt that you will be able to get a "new" 2013 Trail for 35k. If you can, then that would be a pretty awesome deal. If you cant, then you have the 2014 that you really want...lol win win.

Yeah Its just if the color was right (its black) but it was the blue or mag gray i wouldn't mind the 13'... I'll see what they say.

I wouldn't do it. Go for the 2014. I think you'll be much happier with the interior. Plus I totally doubt they would discount the 2013 to $35K.

You CAN get a 2013 Trail for around 35K with KDSS and NAV / Entune Radio. However there's a trick to it.

Counter to most other manufacturers, Toyota offers incentives on a regional basis only. A few days ago some areas of the country were given an unheard of $2,000. rebate on the 2013 4Runner...including the Trail model. I found out one of the areas was Central and Northern California.

I live in So Cal, but found a silver Trail with KDSS, NAV, and carpets at a dealer in Sacramento. They had run an ad aggressively pricing the $40,950. vehicle at $36,750. When I asked them about the rebate they weren't even aware it was available. I could be wrong, but although they didn't say it I got the very distinct impression they wouldn't have offered that discount had they known about the rebate.

I flew up yesterday morning and drove back 434 miles door to door averaging a very surprising 23.82 MPG (based on actual miles / gas to fill up, not the computer). In California at least, they tax you on the "purchase price," sans rebates. So I paid sales tax on the $36,750., then the $2,000. was applied as a down payment. Final price $34,750.

As much as I love my 2009 Sport 4X4, I can't believer the extra interior room and more practical off road design of the Trail. Good luck whether you buy a 2013 or the new design 2014. In either case I'll bet you like it...I sure do.

Get what makes you happy 13 or 14 is a good choice.

I personally went with a 13 for the reason I didn't like the 14's front end. I like harder lines on the front and it looked to Mitsu. for my taste.

The dealer may be able to locate what you want. Although TE's here are hard to find period. They had a 13 on the lot so I grabbed it up ( classic silver) KDSS, NAV/Entune ect...

I was ambivalent about the front end redesign, but was shocked to find they had basically done away with cladding. Painting the bumpers to match the body defeats the purpose of cladding, and turns the TE into an off road vehicle looking for a place to be scratched up.

Ok well i might be getting the 14' trail. For about 37k which seem like a ok deal thats with kdss and nav does that sound about right.

I for one think they went in the right direction painting and clearcoating rather the plain black plastic on the 14's.

The black cladding on the 10'-13' TE's are made of a soft black abs plastic and that is what scratches up and looks like crap after a couple of years and can't be buffed out. You even look at that black plastic on the rear bumper and it will scratch.lol
Even Back to Black,Vinylex and products like that can only do so much to make them look better.

The painted surfaces that scratch or pinstripe ,like my mirrors for example, have a clear coat and can be buffed out and can be made to look like new or barely recognizable. They are usually just in the clear coat from branches and tree limbs unless unless you really hit something solid. We have hardwood mesquite trees down here that make a god awful screeching noise as their spines try to dig in to the paint.

I am going to replace my TE flares next year as 4 years of trail abuse and the southern sun has taken it's toll and they look like crap.I may have them painted and clearcoated first. I already replaced the front center clip on cladding and was amazed at what the new plastic looked like compared to the old aged scratched up one .

Picking up a new Black TE '13 next week..41,000 Can.:) One of the last East of Toronto!

My 03 is sitting in the shop with $5000 damage to the tail gate so decided to get a new one, some inattentive unlicensed driver plowed into me!

2003 SR5 going for cheap!
No shame on it 292,000km

I can attest to this as well. When I had new tires put on last year, I accidentally rubbed the tire against the rear bumper while taking it out of the trunk. The mark from the soft rubber hitting the plastic is still there a year later, lol.

Same thing goes for brush marks on the TE flares. A quick polishing with some 3M scratch remover blended out most of the pin striping just fine on all the adjacent painted sections on the body panels, but forget about trying to fix the pin stripping on the black plastic flares. It's as if whatever you try amplifies the scratches even more. Best thing to hide it is to keep it dirty

Any way to document the rebate? Im looking to buy one in Southern California, and I'm in Texas.

That's about what I paid for my '13 Trail here in NC 2 weeks ago. I tried but they weren't budging. The dealer's trump cards were the delay in getting similarly-equipped 2014s, and the fact that I like the 2013 design better. :)

I used the Toyota web site to verify 4 Runner incentives by zip code. Here's a link that should take you to the correct page:

New Car Deals | Local New Car Specials

Hoss the $2,000. rebate wasn't valid in So Cal. I was searching for a silver Trail, and the most southern part of the state I found the rebate in effect was Bakersfield, about 115 miles north of Los Angeles. The others were San Francisco, Dublin, and Sacramento, all in the Bay area.

Good luck on your search !

Out of curiosity I just checked again and the $2,000. 4 Runner rebate still appears good for Northern California. However as before the So Cal area doesn't have it.

By TE I assume you're talking to the dealer about a Trail Edition? What options and color are you going for Hoss?

As for as negotiating tips, it's true a sales manager might take a deal the last couple days of the month they would balk on earlier. In addition playing one dealer against another is a tried and true method. Since you're obviously willing to travel, do you have a backup vehicle at another dealer somewhere? From Texas you can go to the East Coast just as easily.

There a very good deal on a silver TE in Beaverton, Oregon $40,060. list $37,425. ask:

A magnetic grey TE in National City, CA (near San Diego) $40.945. list $37,218. asking price per their Auto Trader add:

http://www.franktoyota.com/new/Toyota/2013-Toyota-4Runner-c76f5ec20a0a00640166242914f8917d.htm

The same dealer has a black TE (that I almost went for, but decided on silver) $40,970. list $37,238. Auto Trader price:

You might also try finding a big discount from a dealer who's not in a rebate area, such as the three above. Then try getting the same price from a dealer who is? After all they end up with the same profit as the non-rebate dealer, but you end up with a to die for price.

2013 v 2014

Maz, I saw the 2013s at Frank Toyota that you noted in your post--I ended up going with the 2014 Trail (premium)--I was lucky to get the friends and family discount from the fleet guy--$38,200. At least in the SD area, I did not see much of a price difference from the 13 to 14 versions. Moreover, based on my research, it appears that all the 4Runners hold their value pretty well--so we have that going for us--which is nice. m

Hey Marty given you're out there... who'd you speak with? besides the fleet what helped you settle on the 14? I'm on call # 3 to this dealership and still waiting to hear back. (the first person I spoke to friday was off yesterday, but a sales manager never called back, then today I called and she was supposed to be in "in 20 minutes" and that was 2 hours ago. :mad2:

If I could get over the '14 front end, my dealer 5 miles away would likely be way less stressful to deal with given my tight timeline. (test drove a '14 this weekend and already had a follow up call and email from their manager).

2013 v 2014

I spoke with Garret--he is in charge of fleet and also inventory--super nice, no BS, does not act like a regular car sales person. He was referred to me by one of my parters at work; no offense againt Mossy or Kearny Toyota at all but so much easier to deal with fleet sales and Garret was great to deal with. m
