What a horrible way to end what should have been a great day. I have no idea what the circumstances were surrounding this accident, but it is so important to;

  • Save the booze / beer for camp
  • Buckle up when the terrain is getting difficult / off-camber / speeds are increasing
  • Travel in a group
  • Listen to the spotter
  • Don't be afraid to take an easier line / bypass
  • Let people know where you are at
  • Get-out and walk a line before attempting
  • Stack some rocks

That's sobering, it seems that this happen way too often.

Seatbelts are key, it seems that a lot of these deaths come from rollovers when someone falls out and gets smashed by their car.

Also, a big one is knowing that your arms will try to brace when your car is tipping. You will have no power over that. So windows at least halfway up or nets are key to avoiding huge injuries. Some woman in a roll cage buggy rolled over in Moab and sleeved her hands because she tried to hold on to the roll cage during the roll.

A man killed in a rock crawler accident on Thursday, Aug. 9, has been identified by California Highway Patrol as James Davidson Jr., 62, of Chico, Calif.

Davidson had been participating in the 51stannual Sierra Trek, a California Four Wheel Drive Association event, on Fordyce Creek Trail when, according to the department, he lost control coming down a hill and rolled his Jeep Willys.

Davidson was completely ejected and the vehicle rolled over on top of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP reported.

"From what witnesses said he just went over a couple of rocks and just kind of lost control, and got going a little too fast and rolled it over," said CHP Officer Chris Nave. “When he rolled it over, he was ejected out of the vehicle."

Davidson was the only one in the vehicle, and whether he was wearing a seat belt is still under investigation.

The California Four Wheel Drive Association canceled Friday’s full trail run on Fordyce Creek Trail after the incident, according to the association's Facebook page.

The story is he didn't have his seatbelt on cause he was only moving it a few feet. Let this be a reminder to everyone, that no matter what buckle up.

It was a 40's jeep willys that was well built.

Here's a rig we saw unloading at the beginning of Fordyce, that later caught fire. Carnage on the trails this year. The next day, someone was airlifted off the rubicon with a head injury.

This rig is local to me, they posted on the local facebook group needing a tow out back to their trailer. Crazy stuff.
