Deckplate Mod

Hey guys so im planning on doing the deckplate mod either tomorrow or the next day. I was just curious if i could get away with not using some type of sealant for a while since I can't really afford to not use my truck for 24 hours at least. Any input?

I just want to know if I could mount the deckplate to the airbox just using the screws and not the sealant that people use

You sure can. I mounted mine using screws and a bead of silicon. I would suggest using a sealant though. You can still drive it with a sealant drying on the deck plate. Just make sure you don't over do it. Hope this helps!

Ok this helps a lot. I just heard that the fumes from the sealant might cause the check engine light to go on.

Never had that problem, and I have done multiple installs. Just use a good silicon. And let it dry a good 30-45 mins before putting it back in your car.

The fumes can make the CEL come on because they mess with the MAF. If you use a silicon that's make to be used around electrical stuff or sensors, you should be fine.

I use "The Right Stuff" Gasket maker and love it. You can use it for just about anything, and it sets up quick. A bit on the pricy side, ~$15 IIRC, but the stuff it amazing.

I heard that silicone can poison an O2 sensor, but as doc said, if you use SENSOR SAFE automotive type RTV or silcone, you should good to go.
 
You can wait to put sealant on it until you have time to let it dry a bit. You just want to avoid driving through standing water (or any occasion where you'd prefer to have your deckplate closed).
 
If you use a SENSOR SAFE gasket maker or silicone (like stated above^^^), and install it before you go to bed & let it sit overnight, I bet you'll be fine. While those fumes may still be there, there should be WAY less of them once it has set up for 5-8 hours or so.

My 4" is currently held in with the screws and no sealant. I don't ford many rivers, though. I left the sealant off so I could see whether my airbox gets crap in it without having a screen on the deckplate hole. After about six months, no crap at all, so I may just forget about the screen. I cut the hole so tight that I'd have to enlarge it a little to get the screen to fit in, and I don't really want to deal with all that right now.
 
I agree with the above. Buy a sensor/electronics safe silicon and seal it up. I bought some quick set and quick dry silicon.

Because your maff is connected to your air box. Wouldn't want that getting messed up by a piece of silicone would you?
Also since you posted in 3 other deck plate mod threads, the elbow removal is pretty common search it also whats up with the mesh screen? Your filter stops everything all your stopping is maybe a possible leaf but I doubt one will get there.
