Deer verses 4Runner – 4Runner wins…………..sort of

This morning sunny boy, myself, and a couple of friends were heading up north for a day of 4 wheeling. Packed up last night and loaded trailer for a 6 AM departure. Weather was clear with no traffic, was going to be a beautiful day, and the last day of our vacation. And to top it off, had the truck detailed and sealed yesterday, so it was nice and shinny.

Two hours into our ride a deer darted out from the median and I struck it doing 70. There was no warning, only caught a flash from the left, hit brakes, no chance to avoid, BANG, happened in a split second. Was able to bring truck to a stop in break down lane. Engine didn't sound good and a puff of smoke from the right front (leaking antifreeze). We were done! On a positive note, beautiful view where we were stopped..........

Radiator, AC condenser, radiator support, headlight, bumper cover, and passenger front fender are toast. 20" BD onx6 broke lens, 30" BD is bent upward but appears to be fine. LED fogs, V-3 DRL's are also toast.

Disconnected trailer, hooked it up to friends truck to tow back home, Runner received 84 mile flatbed ride to body shop. Think my gas mileage was pretty good this trip....................

Fortunately son and I are fine, just shaken up a bit. Deer not so lucky. Could have been a lot worst, if it had been a moose, I wouldn't be posting............ever.

Glad to hear you and you son are OK.

I have read your informative posts about your LED and electrical work. Sorry to hear that is all kaput!

Glad you guys are ok. My wife hit one a few weeks ago but wasnt going as fast when it ran out in front of her so relatively minor damage compared to you.

Glad you are OK......and it looks like the Filter blocked all that ''Furry'' stuff from the intake!:painkiller:

i hit a deer on my bike 3 weeks ago at 60mph and walked away from it with a broken hip. No one wants to believe if i was in a small car i could have just as easily gotten hurt

Thanks graciedad04! Fortunate your wife was injured, vehicles can be repaired, people can't.

Wow, amazing you ONLY walked any with a broken hip! Time to play Lotto buddy! Glad you're ok.

After the incident, we were talking about how bad it would have been if we were on a bike.

If you would have had three 40" Rigid light bars turned on you could have seen it and prevented the accident lol. Not!
Glad you and the boy are safe. That s the main thing!
