I decided to spruce up this build thread a little and take formatting cues from MTN4RNR's build thread. I've broken down the different areas in much the same style as MTN4RNR's thread. If you have any questions or would like to see more photos of something, just say so and I'll try to post up more.

BFG T/A KO2 275/70/17 tires

Got new tires today. Got them in the 275/70/17s. Decided against lift and having to possibly do the bmc. Happy with the size of these for now. Should be a lot of fun adventuring around in them

RCI Metalworks Rock Sliders

I decided to go with RCI's sliders for my 4runner. They fit the budget and were bolt-on. I originally wanted to go with Relentless Fabrication's sliders but, learned after contacting them theirs don't work with 4runners with KDSS. That's ok, I didn't really neeeeed weld-on sliders, right?

So, I got them as bare metal from RCI. Figured they're probably going to get scratched up quite a bit. Powdercoating seemed like a waste since I'd be likely to repaint them from time to time myself with spray paint. Here they are on arrival to my office, only a few looks as I unboxed them and carried them out to my 4runner. :wow:


Second coat of primer (did 2 coats of primer). I used the Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus gray primer spray paint, it went on pretty nicely:


Final coat of the Rustoleum Auto Truck Bed Coating (4 coats of that stuff). It didn't go on quite as nicely and I got some runs in places. Multiple buddies have suggested the easy way to fix that is to find some rocks :heh:


Install Day!


Had to take these off first. Piece of cake, 6 bolts (12mm), each side


Here's some of what you're working with if you have KDSS (driver's side)




<b><font color="red">***NOTE*** See where the hydraulic lines take a bend downward here to the right? Yeh, you'll want to get the bolt in that location before you finish tightening any other bolts down. It's a bit of a pain to move those lines around (they don't really bend but, if you have the other bolts loose/out you can move them some). Helpful hint!!</font></b>


Alright, stuff all laid out, ready to get to work. I had originally intended to use the bottle jack to help me lift and hold one end of the slider but, my lovely wife came out at the last minute and helped me instead. She rocks.


Finished on the driver's side! Note, the bolts included by RCI are 13mm heads so, you'll need 12 and 13mm to get this done.


Passenger side (nothing to note here really, passenger side is a piece of cake to do)
