Did 1Engineer mention to you guys that the 2016 4Runner broke 100k in Sales?

Took a 12 day trip last month from Salem, OR to Arizona and back and only saw 6 5th gens. Did not count the Mustangs and Camaros. We have them out numbered but we still are rare.

Came back this way, glad to have my T4.

I see so many 4Runner every day I lose track after using all my fingers and toes.

Based on those improvements every year I will bet the executives will plan on a full unibody scion based body for 2018.

You have to wonder how many of the sales are fueled by the fear of the pending redesign? I am not ashamed to say a major part of why I just bought a 2016 is because of it.

I see quite a few 4Runners where I live but I'd guess that around 98% of the ones I see are either SR5 or Limited. I know of one Inferno Pro around town and one pre-2014 MGM Trail Premium as well as one Shoreline blue Trail. Other than that I have seen maybe 2 other Trails since I have been on the road with mine. Many of the Yoga moms here love their Limited 4R's. :hatsoff:

I'm with you brutha...I haven't decided yet on a 2016 or 2017(I know they are basically the same; just more a function of my timing) but replacing my 3rd gen with a 6th gen or a "no gen" just spooks me.

I think a lot of the buyers are not enthusiasts/car people, so they do not think of things like this.

The economy in my opinion is the biggest driver in the sales surge. I wonder how the 4r compares with others in its class (class meaning size, not body on frame suv).

That's because if momma's happy, everybody's happy. My wife usually drives the newer vehicle. I pay for it, she drives it. She said it makes her feel safe, important, blah, blah, blah. Us men are stuck driving the old vehicles. The only new vehicle she didn't drive much was my 2012 F150. She absolutely hated that truck. Maybe because it broke down a couple times on her I guess (common theme with that truck). Honestly though, I don't mind driving my 4th gen and her driving the 5th gen.

I see you're also in CO...but yes. I just bought mine a little over a month ago and I'll pull up to a light and there's usually at least one other 4R, sometimes many. In my small-ish neighborhood, there are probably five new 4Rs with temp tags within the past two months. I think next to Subarus, the 4R has to be the most popular vehicle out here.

You're bang on...you'd have to normalize the data with economic indicators like GDP change, unemployment or something like that.

Just look how the 4Runner 2009 numbers tanked when the subprime housing market cratered the economy.

I was in Durango last weekend. I couldn't believe how many 5th gens were driving around. Actually, all gens were pretty well represented up there but far more 5th gens.

We only see what we want to see.

I don't think I would consider the 5th gen, or even the 4runner as a whole, as the most popular vehicle up there. There were also lots of subarus, suburbans, f150's, etc.
