i miss my jeep every day. literally not a day goes by i don't think about trading in this 4Runner for another wrangler. the 4Runner is nice, but its not even in the same league was a wrangler.

Ok Stif... Errr Marshal... Do they even have trails out there? I assume you have something to tow a jeep to the trail? :cheer2:



When I bought my 4Runner it was going to be my reliable SUV and I'd buy an older wrangler YJ or TJ to play. Some time ago I realized the family would never fit in a two door wrangler and Im really not that good working on trucks. Modding the 4Runner seemed much smarter.

Honestly, if life hadn't gotten in the way (no job, rent due) I would still be driving my Rubicon. I really miss that Jeep. Had it 9 years with very few issues. And it went anywhere I pointed it.

Loved my Rubicons. Problem is, they make shitty daily drivers. That and you have to sink and insane amount of money into them. Cant wait to build my 4runner. Will be my first Yota!

Shitty Daily Drivers...lol this is what I tried to tell one of my buddies who is insisting on buying a Jeep. In reality though I asked him what he will be doing for work and he said oh just traveling on the road a lot. Good luck with that driving a DD Jeep!

Why don't you get another Wrangler? What package would you get?

Life is currently in the way, and there is only so much money to go around. I would get a totally stripped down rubicon 4 door with a soft top and half doors. Put it on 37s and daily that mother ****er, just like my last one.

Trails all over the place, they're just much smaller because they're cut through trees. The 4Runner is hard to take down the trails because of how big it is an the inability to armor any portion of the body. There is a reason why people plate the exteriors of their Jeeps in 3/16ths metal.

My 2006 wrangler with the 4.0 straight 6 and manual transmission never left me stranded, actually - it never broke anything on it that wasn't my fault- and even then things that should have broke by my hand never did. I loved that truck and it was every bit as reliable and long lasting as my 4Runner.

My 2012 wrangler had a battery issue that left me stranded in the parking lot of my job till I could get it jumped and the battery replaced, no fault of the truck. It was also very well built and reliable. I didn't get to test its longevity as I had to get rid of it before the warranty expired - but I loved that thing like a child.

So full circle to now, the 4Runner is nice - but it has literally no character and I don't stare at it or have insatiable lust to wash it. It's the most blah vehicle I've ever owned. I really like it, but it's not a wrangler. I can't take its doors off. I can't take the top off. There is no spark.

I did just that and I am back in my 4runner. the Jeep is a perfect 2nd vehicle

Wranglers are really good. People who bash on them as junk are just ignorant. The reliability is there for sure now.....

I still have trouble buying one though... but that is mainly because there are just so many of them... and so many dip shits around here driving them. I like being a little different and having more overall utility.

Still might end up with one at some point. The pickup version with the diesel might push me over the edge...

I disagree that the wrangler reliability is there, they are pretty bad. And VERY delicate, need lots of building on the front end especially. And still no room or driving comfort. Better then a CJ? Yes, of course. But a horse drawn wagon is better.

BTW nice pick on Hi Dive on Behind the Rocks trail, have not been there in a long time. What a pucker spot!

I currently own a JK and am replacing it w/ a T4R [it is on order].

Wranglers are excellent for what they are designed to do. That isn't being a DD.

Honestly, it has far more capacity than I need. I don't need to go vertical up a cliff or axle deep in mud [and yes, I know TR4Rs can do that too] but w/ a Jeep you give up too much other stuff, comfort, storage ...

This whole thread is a matter of opinion and mission...

We came from TJ and WJ, and the 4R is the closest thing in the market to what the WJ was. Like the Jeeps, the 4R is not for everyone. It is more truck-like (crude?) than any other offering short of a JK. I love the hell out of the 4R, even if it does lack a solid front axle...

And I thought the TJ was an excellent daily driver. It was small, very maneuverable and easy to park. It was rough and noisy, but I never thought of it as uncomfortable. It was FUN!

After the 4R and my truck is paid off, I keep thinking about another Jeep. But the JK is just too damn big and getting too sophistimacated... I've been dreaming up building, from scratch, a brand new CJ5. I think just about every single part needed is available aftermarket, and it shouldn't cost any more than a new one if I keep it reasonable. I'll just have to see if I can find the space to do it, because it'll take me a little time to gather parts and complete it...

I had an '03 Wrangler Sahara for about 7 or 8 years before purchasing my 4Runner. I never had any issues out of it and loved it. I do miss it in the summer for sure, but love the Runner.

I agree with many of the others here. I may have another Wrangler some day, but as a second vehicle.

I had a 1995 JGC and that was enough Jeeps for me. By 17K mikes I was on my 2nd engine, I knew I made a mistake, and it was down hill from there. The biggest piece of crap vehicle I ever owned and I had a Chevy Monza at one time.

My good friend has a 4 door Jeep, I guess it is a Rubicon, and I can assure you, it does not even come close to the ride and quality of my 4Runner.

I have my 77 Bronco Sport, what a Jeep wish it was.

I made a mistake and leased 2014 Grand Cheorkee 4x4 Altitude. Traded in my favorite car, a 2006 Touareg. The day after I got it home it would not start and the USB port stopped working. Went back to dealer fixed the USB, broke 2 weeks later, and they could not replicate the no starting issue. Had it back to the dealer 4 times within 2 months. By the time I got to school in FL, I had the car for 3 months and at that point it had 2k miles on it because it was not trustworthy to drive. The car ended up going back on Lemon Law with 3200 miles on it because the Transmission died on US 1 in Miami in rush hour traffic. I have never had a car that was so problematic.

Family also has an 09 Wrangler Unlimited with 100k miles and that car is just fun in the summer but does not make a good daily. It really is great if you wanna drive down the shore with the top off and the dogs.

4Runner is by far a better car than the GC. I do miss some of the cool tech features the Jeep had like the bigger screen and the LCD dash but I feel far safer and prefer the rougher ride of the 4Runner.

I loved my LJ and will be in a wrangler again in the future.
Life changes forced me to downsize two vehicles into one so sadly the LJ and Superduty became my 4Runner.
I am not disappointed with the 4R and I am happy with our choice.
I am a car nut and wish I was able to have unlimited vehicle storage space.

Although not a Jeep, we bailed out from a 2011 Dodge Durango.

That thing had nothing but problems all under 60,000 miles-----RHS valve cover gasket replaced twice, air conditioning seal gave out at 55,000 miles which requires a dash tear down, thermostat failure, body panel warping, HVAC fan motor replaced and a whole host of manufacturer recalls, many of which there are no parts availability. However, I'm not bitter and certainly there are really great ones on the road and there is lots of owner satisfaction.

I am so glad to have our 2016 4Runner. Solid. Reliable. Simple.

I wouldnt call it a mistake...

I had a 93 Sahara-my last manual transmission...loved its bouncy feel, great in Mid Atlantic snows, made me feel like a star. Hey, i was 24, what did i know for comfort. I loved taking off the soft top in the summertime. Never wheeled it at all-may have never even gotten the tires dirty. the only 'crawlin' it saw was when i was fed up with DC area street traffic and i would take it up over medians and curbs to get out of there (praise the designers of ground clearance). The only issue i ever had was a faulty clutch pedal that i had a mech friend of mine weld to fix. other than that, it was a pretty reliable little vehicle-no complaints. I think i put about 125k miles on it before trading it in for what I THOUGHT was an upgrade -- a 95 LandRover Disco I...dont even get me started on that leaky POS.

when somebody starts the "...mistake buying a landrover" thread, ill be first in line for that one. :hurt:
