Don't misinterpret nostalgia and acceptance for gleaming support of a brand.

I had a 1995 Wrangler and I loved it. Despite all it's warts and simplicity it was great in the summer with the top off. I did love it. But... I sold it with only like 20K or something miles.

However - Chrysler/Daimler has some of the worst reliability ratings on the planet for a reason. My kid had Jeep Cherokee that was the biggest POS I have ever seen and had nothing but issues from day 1.

Google "Jeep sucks" and have fun.

You can buy a clapped out 2nd gen 4Runner with 200K on the clock and that wheezy old 3.0 motor and I'd still take it any day over a Cherokee (because walking sucks).

Former Jeep owner

In 2006 I bought a Jeep Wrangler X brand new and then lifted it.

I had it for about 18 months and sold it and bought a 1998 4Runner SR5 with 130,000 miles on it...............lol
I still have the 4Runner and don't regret the decision one bit!

yeah, i aint saying allllll that.

Jeep wranglers are what they are...they are made to REALLY be tough. they arent any of the 10 other jeep models that just look like they are tough, but are ready to fall apart at the first bump, or whose electronics break as soon as you leave the dealer lot.

as much as i loved that jeep, you couldnt have a normal conversation with a passenger during normal driving, the windows of the soft top were fading white after yr 2, and there seemed to be very little actual damping in the suspension, so you bounced, and bounced and bounced.

yeah, i loved it...as a 24yr old newly college grad buying his first new car ever in life. would i buy one now? well, i shopped a wrangler unlimited until i saw all of the 'its a jeep thing' flaws that even jeep lovers talk about. i plan on owning my 4rnnr until i am old and grey.

My budy called me yesterday...(he drives his work truck every, every night, every where..been in his ear for years to buy something cool for weekend driver) and says..."I just saw one of these jeeps that I like what do you think ?"
I said, oh yeah My step-mom just bought a new one..they are really CUTE ! "
Long story short I sent him another direction and he came back with a 4matic S550..

Previously owned a 2004 Rubicon that I built up (a few thousand bucks goes a long, long way)... easy to wrench on, and a beast on the trails. Only issue I had in all the years I owned it was a leaking seal within the first couple of months of ownership, covered under warranty. Otherwise no matter what I threw at it, it took it and kept going for more. What ultimately made me sell it was that a SWB rig on 35" tires is just not a great a DD, that and it is not a great family vehicle. I still miss that Jeep.

The 4R is a great all rounder, no doubt. I also have no doubt that it is going to be a reliable truck for years to come. It's a great rig that I enjoy driving on a daily basis, and one that can take my whole family along with gear on adventures. Having said that, I think that the Jeep has boat loads more character and soul... and in terms of off-road ability, the Jeep owns the 4R even in stock form. If you start wrenching, the Jeep is easier and cheaper to build up (or at least was, I know their price has been creeping up of late).
