Did you re-aim your headlights after a lift?

Just drove home and had a guy drop-back in traffic next to me and roll-down his window staring across (and up) at me. I thought he was going to ask for directions, etc.

Nope, he started griping saying "You must have your high beams on" and "I am still seeing spots"...I was caught off guard and was all poised to be helpful....probably lucky for this guy (a complete tool) as I just said "Huh, odd, no brights." Than as I started to pull away, I realized it was 100% due to the lift. So rolled down my window again and yelled "HEY! It's due to my lift!" He yells "You should get that FIXED!"

I'll spare you my response as by now, my good-will had completely dissipated when I realized he was actually trying be an a**hole...though I do think he lighted up his tone when he saw me after I rolled down the tinted window. Suffice to say, he decided he'd better move-on...and fast.

Aaaanyway - Have any of you re-aimed your headlights post-lift? I really don't want to be blinding people (unnecessarily).

I definitely had to, I aimed my HID's myself when I installed them pre-lift and they were already a bit high. But after the lift I was blinding people left and right. If I was on a long enough highway I could see the cutoff on the green overhead highway signs...

Needless to say I made a few people a bit angry...

But a quick 15 adjustment fixed it no problem.
 
Yep, it only takes a couple of minutes.

On the back of the headlights there is a vertical channel that leads to a bolt. That bolt is the up/down adjustment. You can put a Phillips head screwdriver in the channel and it will spin the bolt easily. It takes a lot of turns to make a difference and the left and right turn in opposite directions.

and after you re-aimed your headlights, install some roof rigids to really melt the a-holes :sniper: :jump:

Yes, and I too got a couple unwanted comments.

As GrantK already said, it's a quick and simple exercise.

Thanks Grant. So it sounds like it's just an eyeball-it sort of thing. Works for me.

Do you recall which direction turns = aiming down? I am sure it'll be obvious but if it takes a bunch of turns, figured I'd ask to save a few minutes.

There are a number of people here who posted cut off pictures. If you look at one on a garage door you can use the segments to figure out how to adjust your lights to being back to a stock aim/throw. Typing this on my phone so no help with the links.

No, but then again I don't really like people all that much. Also, so far have had no issues with anybody flashing me so......I don't know if its a issue.

Ugh such a huge problem here. Far too many oil workers running around in jacked up 3/4 ton trucks who either don't know or don't care about re-aiming their lights after the lift. To make matters worse I see a lot of those guys running hids without projectors and the cherry on the douchebag cake is when they drive with fog lights on no mmatter what the weather or road conditions. *********s. [/rant]

Please re-aim your lights people. If not, you're the *********, not those people who keep flashing their brights at you on the highway.

Here's the procedure.

Car with full tank of gas, parked on level surface, headlights on, 2' from a wall.
Mark each cutoff on the wall, with a strip of tape.
Back away 25', and adjust the lights so the cutoff is 2" below the tape.

That happens out here all the time with the brodozers. Nothing like 10k HIDs in your fogs to make sure that your fog lights would be worthless in the fog.

It only takes a few seconds to adjust your headlights, it is well spent.
 
Yup had to re-aim mine too. Also of note, if you had your headlights replaced because of the oxidization TSB, make sure you readjust them again. My dealer definitely did not do that when they replaced them...or if they did, they were set to stock spec.
