diff drop

i cut 2 peices of new 2inch exhaust pipe, 1 and 3/4 inches long. planing in installing on the the two front diff mounts so it pivots down and hopefully gives me less bind, along with 2 poly sway bar drop mounts. my question is will these exhaust peices be sturdy enough for this? thanks!

I'm no engineer, but I wouldn't do that. The exhaust pipe won't give any support to the bolts along their length, and even if they don't snap there'll likely be enough play to mess something else up. Plus, 1.75 inches seems like a lot.

4crawler has a diff drop kit for like, 30 bucks, that includes aluminum milled spacers exactly the same size as the extended bolts. I'd go that route, myself.

I have a diff drop on my 88 4runner and it's a 3/16" "C" channel. That's the piece that I got from my rough country 4" front lift kit. If I were to fab my own I would probably use some 3/16" steel plate and make a "C" channel and gusset it on the ends to eliminate flex. Going this route you'll spend about 10 bucks and have the pride of building something on your own. You'll have either 2 or 3 different links you'll have to make but it's fairly simple if you have the abilities to cut and drill through steel. Just make sure you use some good grade8 bolts.

The next question is... do you have the clearance under your diff right now to lower it? In the stock front suspension you have a bar that goes inbetween your lower control arms. That piece keeps your front diff protected. So by lowering your diff you make it more vulnerable to damage.
