2007 4runner

I have a 2007 4runner sport---- and it is driving me crazy becuasse I can't seem to get the differntial lock to enage!!! Does anyone know how to engage this thing? With all the snow we have been getting in the new york, I have been driving in 4hi. I bought this car this summer so i am new to the 4runner specs and capabilities. Is this right--- when in 4 hi the dashboard blinks that the car is in 4 hi. underneath the bkinking 4 hi light on the dash is a yellowish light that also blinks---I am guessing that means the differential is unlocked? The two constantly blink while in 4 hi---is that correct?????Anyone???? when i pressed the differential today when i was sliding while going up a snowy hill nothing enaged? i know if the differntial is enaged the vsa off should come on---that did not happen. do i even want to lock the differential in the situation even if i was able to?? someone hook me up, i am frustrated and dont know what is right or wrong!

The 4wd light should not be blinking, it should be solid, if it's blinking it means it's not engaged yet, it is the same with the Differential. Read the card in your driver side sun visor to make sure you're engaging 4wd properly.
