how about a 1uz? thats my dream. i do mostly crawling tho so a turbo doesn't do much for me, 2jz's are just so overpriced.
awesome truck though, i can't believe how high you get that thing! i guess these trucks can take a little abuse, maybe i shouldn't baby mine so much haha

i have looked into the 1uz but im a little weary about the initial torque from the v8. that and a body lift is out of the question for me. body lifts are a no no at high speeds and i have the whole cab plated to the cage. I would hate to do a swap just to realize that the rest of my drive train cant hold up to the power. I feel that the turbo lag from a 7m or 2jz would be beneficial in that the drive train has a chance to start spinning before all that power is available. I can actually get a 2jz for the exact same price as a 1uz so im not too worried about that. and yes these truck can take major abuse but also keep in mind that almost everything on this truck has been reinforced with plating or crossmembers.

Yes I am bumping off the axle/off the original spring pad. I checked it, rechecked it and kept looking at it as I was building it, but as it goes through the arch, the bump is 90' to the axle pad in the last 2" of compression.

Any time you see a driver and a passenger in full race helmets in a street legal ride, you know something cool is about to happen. Nice truck! I had a brand new 1984 4Runner SR5 and now I have a 2012 TE!
 
That's one serious 1st gen! That fabrication is just about the best I have seen. I also think you win the big air contest.

So cool to see something different. Normally when I think of 1st gen's I think of a solid axle, big tires, and technical trails. A nice refreshment of what can be done to any truck to make it suit the user's needs.... and your needs happen to mean the truck needs to be built to fly (and land) like an airplane. So sweet! GL on T4ROTM.
 
That is one perfect 1st gen. Bravo. And damn i've never seen so much air in a 4runner. What the heck does it feel like to land one of those jumps?

thank you!! i grew up in tahoe around crawlers and the rubicon and always liked the first gen runners so it was an easy decision to build one. Gotta love how versatile the first gens are. They can be whatever you build them as.....and do damn well at it

its an amazing feeling thats for sure...imagine charging up a 100' sand dune, launching and seeing nothing but the sky for a few seconds then all of a sudden you get a glimpse of the landing. i have worked very hard at dialing in my shock valving so the landing is very comfortable. it honestly takes a jump of this size to actually use all of the travel in the suspension
 
I had to check this build out after seeing the T4ROTM picture in the sidebar.

first thought that came to mind was "lol, are you #$%&ing kidding me"

what an awesome first gen. I love seeing the pictures from you guys down south with flying trucks, I have one of a 4th gen as my wallpaper right now but you sir are taking that spot. what a wicked picture.

I have to take a road trip down there to watch this sort of thing one day.

I feel bad for the guys that were nominated the same month as you, they may have awesome trucks as well but damn it's hard to match that.
 
landed here from the T4ROTM and this just blew my mind. Such a sick rig and something I never even considered the 4Runner as being capable of (not that I'm one to underestimate it).

Those big air shots are unreal! Well done man!
