DIY: Gobi Stealth Roof Rack/Ladder Install

You are going to need at least one other person to help. With two people, you should be able to knock it out in 2-3 hours. My dad helped me with mine and it took us about 2 hours. This does not include the ladder, which I have yet to install. The ladder should take about 30-45 min. Good luck!
Times of installation
Time to install Gobi rack, ladder and struts
• Took me 30 minutes to do the ladder.
• Took me just about 2 hours 15 minutes to install the rack including taking off my old rack.
• Took me 10 minutes to install the tailgate struts - I did this alone by propping the tailgate up with a long stick
• Climbed up on the roof rack and installed the fairing in 5 minutes
I had carefully read the instructions and had tools, denatured alcohol, masking tape ready. The silicone I bought sucked so I did not use it on everything. My wife and I lifted the rack on the truck and covered the roof with dog beds so we didn't scratch the roof. It worked perfectly. The rack is pretty heavy.
I plan to put my Tepui RTT on the front of the rack, two large Pelican cases on the back and my CVT Batwing awning on the side.

Ok. Don't kill me. The stainless waterproof washers that come with the kit that are not flat, which side goes up?

There is rubber on the other side. The metal side is crowned.

Rubber down as it provides sealing, metal up against the nuts.

Ordered from Trail Duty on July 27th and it arrived October 23rd. Really well packaged and everything was there even though I swapped one freebie for another 1/2 way through. Happy with it. Just don't like the tape for the wind deflector. Will clear plasti-dip a strip up top this weekend. Good luck. Really is nice quality.

I did but I sealed the hell out of it with 3M 4000UV and am not concerned with it. If you look in the gutter itself, it's pretty obvious that rain gets in there anyway with all the built up dirt only after 6 months of ownership. I don't think the rubber is meant to seal it so much as it's meant to cover the seam of the roof and frame.

I have my power wire ran under it for the lightbar and it sticks up just a bit on the inside but after many rains no water goes in the car. windshield has a good seal on it and the roof runs are more for esthetics than anything else

Can't thank the OP enough for the fantastic write up. While the Gobi instructions are great, this thread helped me see where the instructions fell short, especially when it comes to waterproofing. I used 3M marine silicone which I got from west marine (too expensive). A few rainstorms later and nada! It's still dry!!

I'm on the list for the current Gobi group buy ... haven't even ordered yet but this looks like a great resource for sure.
Waterproofing definitely was on my list of things to check on as some Youtubers have mentioned it on their videos with rack installs. The question I specifically have is about the adhesive pads on the front legs of the rack and those used for the ladder. I don't know if anyone here has had a Gobi rack on their truck long enough to say but eventually that adhesive will degrade and possible damage the paint (maybe at the time they're removed). Are there alternatives other than these pads?
