DIY: Gobi Stealth Roof Rack/Ladder Install

Ladder note
I followed per these instructions; pulling down on the ladder base to get in line with tailgate body line, once the bottom bracket is then bolted to ladder base, I had slight rubbing of the bracket to the "tread plate" plastic. No big D but use caution the double sided tape is pretty much like super epoxy now and can't get the ladder to budge, I even got on the ladder with all my weight, didn't budge.............so I'm leaving the bottom bracket off. If the tape held I'm not worried, it's not my daily climbing ladder.
Make sure you have good clearance, there is small amount of flex when stepping on ladder
Edit: "cold" AZ winters released the double sided tape by the next morning, and the rubbing issue on the tread was resolved by heat gun Harry, a block of wood, and the rear of me! Should be good to climb!

I've tried searching for a while now but haven't had anything come up yet. I ordered a stealth rack and I'm thinking about buying a thule force alpine cargo box. Does anyone have any pictures of the box mounted to the stealth rack? I want to see if it takes up to much room, width wise, to make the roof rack useless.
And I would have made my own thread, but I haven't had enough replies to make my own.. ��

This thread is great. I ordered my stealth on Oct 6th and have experienced a similar wait times as other along with sub-par customer service from Gobi (no-call backs). I was finally able to get them to look up my order # and they assured me my rack will ship on Monday. Anyone installed the gas powered struts? Seems pretty straightforward.

Monday, must be the next big delivery date because I ordered mine in Oct and they told me 12/12 (Monday) as well. I hope they are right. :dizzy:

Installing new struts for your liftgate? MAKE SURE YOU SUPPORT both sides of the lift gate (place supports under each corner as you replace the struts. If you don't, the gate can flex slightly and shatter the rear glass. Just FYI. Didn't happen to me but it CAN happen

The struts are stupid-easy to replace. Even I had no trouble doing it.

i called tuesday to check and they said they would call back which confuses me if i gave them my order #. Been blowing them up this AM and no answer. Wishing that a company that offered such a great product didn't fall short in the customer services area. I am getting into a situation where the weather is complete shit and my truck will not fit my garage after the Toytec lift goes in tomorrow. Looks like a sub-zero install for me. I was thinking back when i ordered in it October i would have it by Thanksgiving, now we are pushing Christmas and i have a big trip planned in 3 weeks which i was banking on using my rack for my Jerry cans.

Just got off the phone, it shipped Tuesday. Freight carrier will call Monday, to set up Thursday delivery. Friday the 23rd is a no work day for me!!!

Hell yea buddy, congrats! I am facing the same issue here in VA.....today is the lowest temps of the year, high of 23 and wind chill of 4 in my town. The main issue there is I think the 3M sealant needs to be at 70 degrees in order to properly cure per their website. I think I can fit mine in the garage, but it's going to be tight to move around and really close to get out once it's installed.

I knew that was going to be an issue, i plan on using a heat gun or hair dryer. I think i am going to ask my neighbor if i can use her garage because it is high clearance. I am in Chicago so we wont see 70 degrees @ 50% humidity until June. I will post up some pictures next week provided i can complete the install completely.

Did you place your order direct with Gobi or through a vendor? I placed mine on Sep 3rd through a group buy on Trail Duty and still haven't heard about shipping. I have an email and left them a message to find out the status.

Damn, I ordered mine OCt 6th from Trail Duty. I would give them a call, they are going to give you the run around don't let em. Follow up if they say they will call you back because they wont. Don't bother leaving a message, i dont think they check them.

Received my stealth rack today! Ordered Sept 6th direct from Gobi....was a long wait but I'm sure its worth it. Will be using this thread to install tomorrow.
I loved my stealth, ordered it probably 6 weeks before I got my Pro. I did end up selling it and buying a Baja Rack though. Not because I didn't love it, I just couldn't get the fairing to not whistle. I probably tried 30 configurations and couldn't get it right. Ended up driving me crazy. Opted for the Baja Rack and have been very happy with it, but wish I could have got the Gobi to work. I attached a picture Gobi sent me for fairing adjustment. Might help some of you all experiencing wind noise.

Held up great with 2 boards on it in white out snow!! Whistles yeah, the Light bar doesn't help either. The only thing that sucks is my Yakima Fat Cat 6 snowboard holder spins like a mofo on those round bars. I think there's an adapter. Kinda sucks to buy something extra. [emoji35]
