After market lens, no bug eyes!

Hi all,


Are there aftermarket lens makers that take out the "bug eye" effect on the side of each turn signal cover? The one main thing I don't like about the 5th gen is the "bug eye" front/rear turn signals.

The 4th gen were smooth.

Any suggestions? Other than just buy a gen4?

I know I'm bringing back a sleeping thread here. I am trying to see if anyone has blacked out a2014+ headlight. I've looked around the forum and on Google. The closes I have found is an aftermarket one but why spend the money if we can do it on on our own. If no one has I'm going see about doing a write up of my own. :crazy:

I know I'm reviving the dead here, but I'm wanting to black out the reflector bowl as well. It looks like the bezel can be painted just fine with no prep work, but what about the reflector bowl? I did my Tacoma years ago and I remember sanding down and prepping the bowl, but is it able to be painted without prepping like the bezel?

I think I read somewhere on here that the newer headlights were plastic welded shut. Not sealed with butyl or whatever they used. So can't be heated in oven to unseal. Need to be cut open. Don't know about after market lights though.

You don't want to black out the reflector bowl, thats what projects the light in front of you. Your headlights will be practically dark without those. Unless you swap in projectors, which would be cool.

That's actually exactly what I was planning on doing. I did projectors on my Tacoma and blacked out the reflector bowl and now I can't live without the same look on the 4Runner!

I will like to change the tail lights, and replace them with the ones of 2014 5th gen model, they look exactly the same size, but the 2014 and newer are LED... have any body did this change succesfully, or knows if they are interchangeble? Plug and play at it's finest. Took me 10 minutes to change out both tail lights. No wiring needed. Also comes with all the bulbs necessary already in the tail housing.

Yes since we black then out to give these lights a different and nicer look, by adding our biled projectors and also hid projectors to replace the factory high beams you get a lot better function or having 4 low beams and 4 high beams ( so at that point doesn’t matter if you have housings painted just make sure you have the right you to fill out that spot(which is our projectors).

Also our headlights are not cutted, our headlights are dissembled and ou fit back together without any cuts ! Here are some pics about that... also we have done some nice tail lights for them and new ones CONING SOON, STAY TUNNED FOR MORE!

I heated the oven to 300 degrees; turned it off and immediately put the light in and waited 10 minutes. I have pulled, poked, and prodded.

I'm assuming that you have taken all of the screws on the back of the headlamp assembly as shown in the first picture??

Yes. Everything that could be removed was removed.

The good news is that while it took me more than an hour to remove the lights and front bumper/grille. I had it back on in twenty minutes this morning.

Thoughts on Vinyl

My first post, so cut the noob some slack.

I just got my 2012 SR5 and am planning to black out the chrome. I also like the look of some carefully placed carbon fiber vinyl (rear garnish, fog light bezels, etc.). Has anyone done this mod and wrapped the headlight bezels instead of painting them? I don't know how hot the headlight assemblies get, and have some concerns the wrap would discolor or melt. I may steal the laser thermometer from work and check how hot those bezels get before i crack open my lenses.

But if the vinyl could handle it I think it would be a nasty look. Has anyone tried this?
