DIY what size jack/jackstands ?

My 4R has a 3 inch OME lift with 33`s on it. I want to rotate my tires myself. Drop my skid plate. Do alot of cleaning on the undercarriage and general maintenance. I got my stock bottle jack fully extended and it looks like im going to need a higher/bigger jack to do the job. Is there some rule of thumb when buying a jack/jackstands for a lifted truck? I`m sure my suspension has some flex in it so how high will i need to go just to get the tires off the ground? Is this even possible or am i going to need to take it to a mechanic with a lift?

I`ve got 16 inches of clearance from the floor to the back jack point on the frame. The stock jack fully extended gives me about 16 1/2 inches and my tires dont look like they are anywhere close to coming off the ground.

the rule of thumb is to get a jack that will go high enough to lift your tires off the ground. Is this a trick question? Just go get a bigger jack!

I usually stack some bricks or a couple of 2x4's under the jack when I rotate tires. Then I'm still able to use the stock jack. But if I were going to crawl under there to work or clean, I might prefer to have something a little more heavy duty than the little jack that fits underneath the back seat.

If its just 1 piece of 2x4 than yes you can use it and put it over the the top of the jack.

dont use the frame to jack the truck up, use the rear axle. That way you don't have to worry about the suspension being at full droop.

Is it bad for the suspension? Being at full droop?

Any specific spot on the axle? Or just the best looking spot..In theory if i jack up the back axle then both sides of the truck will come up evenly. Right?

no it just makes it hard if you have a lift to jack up the side you want or sides at full droop.

best jacking method if you can afford it

get a proper floor jack from being on forums awhile i have heard numerous stories of people almost dying from having their car/truck/bus fall on their heads, use jack stands as a saftey stop and the floor jack as a active stop, that way it's redundant and if your kid/wife/dog/you knock some a stand by accident your covered.

you jack from the axels for tires/breaks/ect and jack from the frame for suspension/shocks/coils ect

this works as well but still use jack stands and make sure ebrake is one always!!

Put your jack under the differential and lift from there. When you get the tires off the ground, put your jackstands under the rear axle at both ends. If you need the suspension to droop, then put them under the frame...

Thanks guys. Got my tires rotated and cleaned out some mud in the tire area. Noticed my rotors were really rusty. Guessing this is normal on a 11 year old truck? Back breaking work. The 33`s weigh a lot more than i thought they would lol. Glad I had my 10 yr old helping me. Had a good time.

Steering wheel has some serious wobble now around 30mph and around curves. Thinking i may need my tires balanced? Rotated the back to front. Lugs are all good and tight. Any idea what a balance cost?

Type of jack

Sooo....
either I missed something or didn't search the threads correctly... But no one has answered the question. If I'm not mistaken it's. "What's a good jack/jack stands for our 4runner ?", correct ?
So let's say it's a:
3rd gen
With "3 lift (because that's a pretty standard beginning lift)
And one size larger tire 285's about "1.5 additional radius
Total of approximately "4.5 additionally

My stock jack won't do it w/o blocks

My floor jack won't do it w/o blocks and I believe it is "3- "19

I am tired of using blocks

May I humbly ask what type of jack do u use w/o blocks and do u info re: quality, price, value, sturdiness, locking mechanism, handle, weight, birth jk ..?

I have owners several different types but the most recent good one was stolen and the other I have oiled but have gone bad or r too small.

Used correctly, I don't see why a saddle extension on a floor jack isn't a viable alternative?
Seems safer than blocks & bricks...
