Do all 4Rs default to recirculation mode for A/C?

My Sport has the three knobs and a push button AC. I have it set to vent & feet, with AC off, temp 67*F. It still defaults to recirculate when I start up the truck. I guess it would make sense if the AC was on, but it isnt.

Checked today on my 5th Gen and when the AC knob is one knotch up and the recirculation is off, the system stays set at that setting after start and stops.

The Car Care Nut (Toyota tech on YT) will tell you.. only use recycled air WHEN YOU HAVE TO..

And, when you do, be sure to run FRESH AIR for 15 minutes for every HOUR of RECYCLED air - to ensure the condenser dries out and doesn't stay filled with moisture.. and end up smelling like shitte.

And, no, my 2021 Pro doesn't default to recycled air.

“To ensure the condenser doesn’t stay filled with moisture”

Does this mean that a vehicle will not drip water on the ground when the a/c is set to recirculate?

Correct. The lowest temp setting will always trigger both AC and Recirc. Just going one notch up on the temp gets you your choice of one, both, or neither.
