Do all first gen 4runners have a CEL (check engine light)?

I have a 1986 runner and there is no CEL on when I try to start the car. Maybe the bulb is out....just wanted to check if it is supposed to have a light before I take the dash off to see what's up.

i have an '88.

and i was throwing CELs after replacing the engine

My non-SR5 '86 does indeed have a check engine light.

If it has a 22RE yes, if it has a 22R no.

22re. Thanks all. I just pulled the gauge cluster out and of course no bulb in the CEL spot. Got a new one and now it goes on and off as it should.

Hmm, not trying to worry you or anything. But, if the bulb was physically missing it has me wondering why? Did the P.O remove it to hide something before selling it? Just a thought

But if it's going out like it should then you shouldn't worry.
