Do you care if your mods look cool?

I had a weird conversation with a Rando who approached me about my TE build and said that I have Icons on the thing but I don't have cool color coil springs, UCAs, or any stickers of what kind of lift I have--and my sliders are rusted to shit and my skid plates are hammered to hell. He also commented that the Icons look "dull" which will happen when they get salted.

He had a clean build white TRD Pro with red coils and UCAs and all the lettering blacked out.

It never occurred to me to mod my truck based on looks, but apparently it's a big deal to some. I've even taken a pocket knife to my fender liners when they rubbed the tires on a trail before I could do a cleaner job at home.

I don't necessarily care if they look "cool" but I also don't want them to look like crap.

JKUs seem notorious for someone hitting up the 4WD Parts catalog and buying a bunch of Chinese junk that looks terrible all thrown together.

Cohesiveness is more important to me. If part of that cohesiveness is being rough around the edges (like hand trimming), more power to you .

I do take looks into consideration when ordering if the options are there. I just ordered my Dobinson suspension and opted to get the red springs so that I can see them. When I get my LFD skid package, I will paint them red as well. The paint is for rust protection but might as well make them look cool too!

If the options were not there, it would not deter me from the purchase. Performance over looks is what I go by!

Any stickers that come on hardware are removed before it gets bolted on.

So much this. Its real easy to just throw a bunch of parts in the cart and have your cookie cutter lifted mall crawler.
A little thought into what you're building and what you're trying to achieve will mold out a great rig.

Your TE shows evidence of actually being used, which to me is far more impressive/"cool" than color matching and manufacturer labels. A purpose built rig will have an aura that speaks to me far more than shiny bits.

Whenever I see a lifted truck I look at the wheels. If they are scratched from rocks I know it actually gets used offroad.

My truck has some shiny bits but the real beauty is all the parts that take a beating.

I would rather have a mediocre looking truck with ideal mods for my specific use case then one that might look better. Although I have really never seen a built out 4runner that I did not like the look of lol.

I still take looks into consideration though. I just raptor lined my front and rear bumpers. Tried color matching but failed, so will be re-spraying them black after winter because I hate the look after thinking about it. When it comes to dings, scratches, or parts you hardly ever see (suspension) though, I do not care.

Doesn’t have to look cool, but has to look professionally installed. Exterior stuff will take a pounding after a while, but I want interior mods to look good. Especially wiring. I don’t want to look behind trim panels or under the hood and see a rats nest of wires going everywhere, held together with wire nuts and duct tape.

Besides if I wanted to look cool I would have bought a raptor or a gladiator on 40's. Not a slow brick muilti tool of a vehicle.

As far as ''Cool''.........I only care if it looks cool to ME! I have a sense of what I think looks cool and it's probably mine alone. If someone else likes it then that's cool too. I am old enough to not care for the ''Everything flat black'' look.......I like old school Shiny Chrome and Aluminum with a White paint Job.
