Do you ever get bored with your T4R?

My 4R is probably the first NEW vehicle I've ever purchased that made me not continue shopping after purchasing if that makes sense. I've owned A LOT of vehicles, most new, was never overly into any of them. I'd buy a vehicle, continue shopping, keep it a year tops. IMO, the 4R is the last true SUV on the road in it's class. Just wish it has a solid front axle and a V8 but I have absolutely no desire to sell it. If the 6th gen offers a V8, I will likely trade up or just buy it and have both. If not, the 5th gen will stay.

Or are most of you die hard 4Runner guys that are only looking at 4Runners to replace your current 4runner? lol

Not any more. I was in a job with lots of travel and lots of miles, so I’ve had:

Since 2013, I have missed the 4Runner, just did not know how much until I moved into the Jeep Grand Cherokee. After 2 years of buyers remorse and 4Runner envy, I finally moved back. Home sweet home.

Every time I drive deeper into the mountains on a trail that is more difficult than the last I'm even more impressed with it. The 4Runner truly is a Utility vehicle built to haul people and gear off road. If you're not using it for that purpose then it's no surprise that you're bored with it. Load it up with camping gear, drive it through rocks and mud, and find a beautiful place that no one else can get to. Then maybe you'll appreciate it for what it is.

Bored? No way. I'm on dirt almost every weekend, either driving to my next hike, scouting out my next campsite or just exploring some less travelled roads. I don't think I've ever owned a vehicle more perfectly suited to my uses than this 4Runner.

This is basically it. I'm bored with the SILVER color sometimes, and driving on road. But I know i'll be on the trails soon which keeps me excited.

Going into nature is basically all i can think about.

I get bored, sure. But then I start planning the next mod or get a trip together to go wheeling with my buddies from tacomaworld, and that boredom goes away. I try to do at least one trip every month, and most months we do two trips. I love my 4R, and would be hard pressed to trade it in. I love the raptors, and if I had the money, would definitely own one, but the trails in the area are a little tight for a full sized truck.

Hell, last week I got bored and decided to order a front bumper, winch, and a fridge.

Have definitely been on the bored side before. Owned since December 2016. Went to the car show 2 months ago and sat in a bunch of cars, go in the runner at the end of it and just smiled. Was completely satisfied with my purchase.

For me, the first thing I wanted to change was the infotainment to match the whiz-bang-pop of all the other manufacturers. But once I realized that all that whiz-bang-pop gets outdated, never updates and contains some critical functionality for the car which equals more money when it envitably breaks, that is when I changed my mind and started respecting the decisions by Toyota more and more.

But am looking to upgrade the wife's car to have the sportier city driver.

I totally agree. This is our family car. My husband has a Tacoma that has a lot more modifications, but my 4Runner is pretty stock, but for sure is much nicer than a mini van.

I get bored on the day to day, but the Runner has clear benefits when it is being used for activities. I do really want a 911, however.

911's are boring also unless you have access to a track to use it..

I think it's been said over and over above but its all about what the T4R can do on and off road. I previously had a BMW X5M mapped etc and I don't miss it one bit (besides the sound system) the t4r 5thgen for me atleast is a way more enjoyable to drive day to day, its pretty no fills but also takes me places no other car I've ever owned have. It makes memories

If you love speed and a thrill get something else that is built for that, I've had many fast cars and the one car that I pine for again was my fd3s Mazda Rx7 with a single turbo and 500+ whp but I'll be using the t4r to trailer it.

I also love walking up to my Pro she looks special

I certainly have track access, which is where a 911 would be useful to me. Track days are akin to offroad days relative to my "enthusiast" needs. Ideally, I would have both. I don't intend on getting rid of my 4Runner, as I said, it benefits my activities.

I've owned like 8 or 9 cars in the past 14 years and the 4Runner is the first one I've owned where I look forward to just driving the 15 minutes to work every day. No idea why. I've owned a handful of performance Mustangs that mostly just frustrated me even though they were pretty cool to drive. But for whatever reason, I just love getting into the 4Runner and knowing that I can more or less drive anywhere in a cool looking vehicle without worrying about anything really getting in my way.

I've gotten more compliments on my 4Runner than I did with all my Mustangs combined, including a 1966 and a pretty sweet 2003 Mach 1:

My wife drove a bunch of other SUVs before she bought the ‘18 4R. She loved the way it rode and loved the old school styling. She’d have bought an International Scout if they still made them. She plans on keeping it forever, which is one of the reasons I was happy she chose a proven platform. I feel the same way about my ‘17 Tundra. Neither will be going anywhere for a long time. I do get bored with my vehicles at times but it’ll be at least 9 more years with the Tundra and much longer with the T4R since she only drives about 6,000-7,000 miles a year. Living near Buffalo, we get blasted with snow a few times each year. I can’t think of a better vehicle for her to be driving to be sure she gets through the back roads and then home. I’m looking forward to winter to compare it to the Tundra in really deep snow. The stock tires kinda blow and I’ll be putting a set of Duratracs on it once the factory rubber wears out.

Since 2011 I’ve gone through
2011 Army Green Trail edition FJ
2013 Tundra Rock Warrior Crew Cab
2017 Jk Unimited Rubicon which I just trade for ‘18 Trd orp, I considered a raptor but just can’t justify the cost.

The only one I miss and likely always will is the FJ, but it just wasn’t working with a small child. I find myself in the garage with the 4 runner more than any of them. I love this vehicle so far.

The only time I ever got bored with one of my vehicles was when I couldn't afford an SUV and was stuck with an old, boring CAR.

When it comes to trucks/SUVs, I never get bored with them. I keep them and use them, until they're so old that reliability becomes an issue.

You either are the type of guy who likes a lot of different cars and has car ADD or not. And, if you do.... theres nothing wrong with it as long as you're ok losing money on the trade ins or buying/selling (not to mention modyfying, which most likely you do if you go through a lot of cars).

I personally maintain 3 cars plus a motorcycle at any given time, which gets old and expansive (BMW, Porsche, Ducati). Worst part of it is the time involved so eventually I sell everything and enjoy the time and financial burden gone.... Until I buy more junk b/c I'm always looking at new/other cars to buy.

I fantasize about just having one car, the car that checks all the boxes for me and trading in the runner on another G class (I have had two in the past) but this time on G55 or G63 to scratch the forced induction itch.

As far as 911s.... trust me, you will never get bored of it and can have plenty of fun in them on the street.

If you get bored and wanna trade it, trade it, you can always get another one.
