Do you recommend aftermarket navigation?

Agree. I have a top-of-the-line Garmin Nuvi with lifetime updates. I simply cannot imagine having a navi that won't work while underway.
With all the complaints I read about factory nav, I just do not understand the attraction - esp for the price. And talk about easy updates ... 5 min USB'd to my laptop and done.
I fooled around with several mounts, and settled on the clampy-thing in the center stack AC vent.
On a recent 3K mile road trip, wife kept checking the Nuvi against her new smartphone. The phone did well, except for when she had no/slow connection. (Not an option for my flip-phone)
I am constantly impressed at the detail and accuracy of the Garmin. It knew exactly where I was, even tho I was lost in one-way alleys in Sarasota..... it even splits the map screen with photos of upcoming intersections.

We have an older Garmin, and we STILL prefer to use it instead of the factory NAV in our 4Runner OR our 2015 Highlander. Easier to use and at least as accurate. Plus, updates are cheap or free--depending on which Garmin you buy.
There are a multitude of options out there for mounting the Garmin--or any other aftermarket hand-held NAV--all it takes is a little research and a few bucks.

There's your answer. Navi is not worth $7 - $10K. You can get your $30K truck and if you want in dash Navi, go to Crutchfield and get a nice aftermarket unit for much less than $1K, and still come out $6 - $9K ahead. Or just get one of the handheld units already mentioned in this thread and save even more.

I agree, for strict convenience a Garmin unit is probably the best for most people.

also, with the garmin you can plan your trip on the computer and upload it to the garmin.
did this for the warden/daughter on the trip they are going next month down to misery err Missouri
Now THAT I did not know. I suppose it's in the damned OM.
Offline GMaps is better than nothing, but won't give you navigation data. Not very suitable for driving, but nice for walking/hiking.
The presence of navigation isn't your problem then, you're looking at trucks too new or with too few miles for your budget.
The navigation isn't much to write home about anyway. You're not missing much. I had to buy mine with nav because apparently, for 2015, it's damn near impossible to get one without it. I wouldn't have voluntarily optioned it, but for $400, I wasn't going to complain too loudly.

You will like the Pioneer HU. It is great and I really like the active traffic integration. MotionX offroad is great for wheeling.
