Do Yukon Chromo Axle Shafts Run Short?

Hey Guys,
For those that have picked up a set of yukon axle shafts in chromoly or 1541H (#YA T35350), did you notice that they are shorter than stock or am I just "lucky"?

They are advertised to be 29 1/4", but mine measure around 29 1/8". Stock seems to be closer to 29 5/16" (on my '99 5-speed elocked). Not sure how I feel about less spline engagement, so thought I would check here and see if anyone else noticed the same thing.

Made a few phonecalls, heres what Yukon says:

The 29 ¼” measurement is measured on a diagonal from the outside of the flange, to the tip of the shaft, not parallel to the shaft as you show.

The shaft should work fine in that application, the factory axle protrudes thru the spline slightly. This will still have full spline engagement.

For reference here are some part numbers:

#YA T35350 is Yukons 1541H shaft, 29.25" long

#YAW T8-30-29.0 is Yukons 4340 Chromoly shaft, 29.125" long

#AXT34060 is Nitro's 4140 Chromoly shaft, 32.125" long (cut to length), made in USA.

Im going to gove the Nitro shaft a try. I'll post some pics of the Yukons, Nitro's, and Stock.

Stock is on top/left, Yukon #YA T35350 center, and Nitro #AXT34060 on bottom/right.

The Nitro axle shaft is plenty long enough to cut to exact OEM length. The overall shank is noticeably beefier. It does not have the 7th flange hole (oil slinger).

The flange thickness on all 3 measured the same: 0.300"

Shaft diameter after first step down (after c-clip groove, etc)
Stock:1.328"
Yukon: 1.332"
Nitro: 1.475"

Shaft diameter after second step down:
Stock:1.326"
Yukon: 1.306"
Nitro: 1.378"

Shaft diameter at third step down (just prior to where splines are cut)
Stock:1.221"
Yukon: 1.240"
Nitro: 1.221"

Axle shaft weight:
Stock:18 lbs 2.9 oz
Yukon: 18 lbs 6.5 oz
Nitro: 19 lbs 1.2 oz (after being cut down to stock length)
