Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Thank you Mike. I will research a little more and see which one would be better for me. I don't tow that often but would like to increase to 2 trips per month. I have to go back and see how much my trailer brought my rear end down on my last trip to Anza Borrego when I was fully loaded. I also need to compile a list of things I might be adding to the truck in the future as well. I know rear window steel molle panels are on there but not sure the weight - but still, it all adds up. I actually kind of like the teal though a richer blue is more my color, LOL. Can you possibly PM me the prices of each of those spring models - in the teal if the color changes the price, black would be the next choice. Thanks!

Ok. All the pricing is in post #1, and color choice doesn't change the price.

I installed my C59-302 and C59-325 springs and went with the Dobinsons struts last week. The ride has smoothed out each day and I couldn't be happier. She's still comfortable as a daily driver and I got a 2.5" lift in each corner. Added some spacers and now she looks gooooood. Thanks Mike! The service was great!

Thanks for all the help Mike! My 302 and 325's showed up! I am pairing these with my 5100's for now to see how everything is going to work out.

The 325's in the rear even with my RCI sliders, Gobi rack and Ladder, have me sitting at 24" from center of hub. I couldn't imagine running the 3" long travel springs, even though I really want the long travel. Once I get my storage box and fridge setup I will probably have enough weight to switch to LT, hopefully without going up to 25" from center to fender.

Ride is great!! I wish I had after pics but the weather is so bad here right now.

The fronts are 23.5" from center to fender. I ran the 302's at the zero setting on the 5100's and added a 3/8 top spacer. Once the winch goes on and it all settles it should be perfect.

Dobinson, do you know if anyone is running Kings in the front at their recommended 2.5" height with any of your Variable rate 3" in the rear?

Not that I recall, but it's possible. I've sold a lot of rear coils alone and I don't always ask or know what setup they're matching up with.
Several guys in this thread are running kings with our linear rear coils, but that's all I can recall.

Yeah I've done a lot of scouring and haven't found an example yet. I sooo want the variable rear coils but I think 3" is going to be to tall for keeping it relatively level with kings at 2.5" in the front...

Mike, looking through your build you're running the 302 coils on your front no? With the 3" Vrate in the rear? If so that would mean your on a 2" front 3" lift rear is that correct?

Hey man. I have a build thread posted for the company's 4Runner, a black one, but that's not mine. Mine is magnetic grey.

I don't remember what I posted now, but for the 3" lift we have on it, we used a 2" coil and set the coil seat up by 1/2", giving an extra 1" of lift. It's the same thing we do with the GS59-574 struts, they have a taller coil seat that adds 1" of lift to the suitable 2" lifted coil.

Or on the MRR struts, we could set the coil seat to stock height and run the C59-448 3" comfort rate coils. That's what's on it now actually.

Well, I have called out Dobinsons Mike here for recommendations twice now to no avail , anything?

Here is my dilema from another post. I had odered a set of 6112's back in October but bilstein keeps delaying the orders, they are now saying Mid May! WTH?Recomendations?
Dobinsons Mike

I have read so many threads about which is the best way to level/lift our 4runners here (hours, days, weeks, months) on the form and have become even more confused on which way to go and I am seeking advice, sorry if this is redundant.

I have a 2017 TRD Off Road Premium with KDSS,2600 miles. The more I drive it the more I like the stock feel of the suspension minus the dreaded nose dive when braking. I do not like the factory rake of the truck and would like it to be more level and raised up over all a little 2-2.5 inches perhaps (hoping for a more aggressive stance)

Here is the situation in where I am seeking advice from experienced members of the forum. I do not do very much off roading, a trip to the beach once a year and a rare trip to the mountains (fire roads), never anything too rough and I live where we get occasional snow and I tow an enclosed motorcycle trailer once in a blue moon. This vehicle is a daily driver so mostly a pavement princess.

I have purchased a set of 5100’s (new in box, have not installed yet). Keeping in mind I want to keep close to stock suspension feel (minus the nose dive if possible) and want to keep tire size of 265 or 275-17 and get rid of the front end rake. After reading the forums I got nervous about going to 1.75/ 1inch back with the 5100’s, I am worried it will be too preloaded and stiff, I thought about doing 0.85 but I am afraid it is just not enough (looks/proportion wise). So since I thought since I have not installed the 5100’s yet I should just order some springs toytec 11260, EMU 884’s 885’s, 883’s maybe (are they softer, like stock), , [Rear] Wheeler's T-13 or SAW’s, or do some kind of spacers and keep the 5100’s set on 0 or not even install them and all and just do the spacers, I think you see my dilemma , too many choices. Just want to keep a nice plush ride (for my daily driving), not go too high 2-2.5 max, 2in would be optimal and not lose all towing capacity (I could always install airbags if need be for that, open to suggestions) and use my 5100 that I have invested in already, Oh and one last thing, I dont want to cause any problems (stering vibration etc). I am not opposed to selling them and do spacers if that is the direction I need to go, I am also willing to spend money and get springs if it helps me accomplish my goals also. If anybody can help me figure this dilemma out it would be greatly appreciated.

You are asking Mike to comment and recommend items that he has no experience with and does not sell.

Try asking him what Dobinsons full setup would be best. Not to steer you away from Dobinsons, but it sounds like no lift will satisfy you if you feel 1.75" of preload on a stock coil would be too much?

But to help answer your question the best I can ( I have 5100s and Dobinson coils)

Run the 5100's
Front coil - C59-238 or C59-300
Rear coil - C59-599

Map Key:

Front Coil Options, without KDSS.
C59-238 - Stock front end, low height lift, 0.75-1.0" lift. 375/375mm, 17mm wire, 586LB
C59-300 - Stock front end load, 1.75" lift. 385/385mm, 17mm wire, 586LB

Rear Coil Options, without KDSS.
C59-323 - Stock height rear coils, same specs as rear TRD Pro OE coils, 375/375mm, 17mm wire, 220LB
C59-599 - Stock rear end, 1.0" lift (keeps rear end low, allowing to level the vehicle rake with 2" front lift). 390/390mm, 17mm wire, 220LB

After running both the 5100 and the dobinson shocks, I will say the dobinson stuff is far and away better in quality and ride characteristics. Just my opinions. I’ve had the dobinson kit on for well over a year now.

Sorry Kdawg, I thought you had emailed me directly and I responded to that guy. Someone asked me the same stuff about the same parts last week, and I thought it was you. People message me on this thread, then PM, then email, and sometimes all 3, so I end up replying everywhere

That's right, I don't sell Bilstein, but the guys on here in this thread that run Bilsteins with Dobinsons coils can give you actual feedback. You already bought the shocks, just add some coils and call it a day, and choose what lift height you want based on the options in the first post. 1.75" in the front with 1" in the rear should do you well, or just throw those shocks on the with the stock coils so you can see what difference those shocks make.

Mike, I love my setup you helped me with. I was just responding to Kdawg

I'm so confused about the lift options, their seems to be info everywhere and alot of different answers.

I'm wanting a 3" lift what all do I need? Will I need upper control arms?

Choose the appropriate 2" lifted coil to suit your weight, then add GS59-574 struts, which add 1" of lift, for 3" of total front lift.

Then choose which coil you want in the rear. A lot are doing 3" in the front and 2" in the rear, so that they only need rear coils and shocks, nothing else. Going with 3" in the rear requires longer brake line and bump stop extensions to do it properly.

Yes, UCA's are required for 3" of front lift.

My 6112’s keep getting pushed out further and further. Likely going to go with 5100’s and Dobinson springs as soon as I get back from vacation. Seems to have excellent reviews.

Are the Dobinson shocks a bit beefier than the 5100’s? 51mm vs 46mm?

Not sure why the 6112's keep getting pushed. They must be reworking them. If we were unable to supply for 4+ months, it usually means we're reworking it. Like our TRD Pro coils.

Yes, our shocks are bigger, but they're also twin tube, so that adds thickness due to the 2nd wall and extra oil.
