Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

A big thank you to Mike for help with ordering springs for our TRD Pro T4R. We got the springs installed this weekend and couldn't be happier. Our goal behind this install was to improve the handling and ride when fully loaded down with a RTT, Hitch rack full of wood or coolers and all the rest of our gear when we go Overlanding. The ride is much improved. Way less nose dive, definitely stiffer but not harsh and certainly tell its lifted higher than stock.

We went with C59-748 Front & C59-327R Rear

Here are some pictures from the install. First photo is before on factory springs:

These bolts seem to always tend to seize up but thanks to our installer ( Texoma on tacomaworld.com) they won't be an issue again now that they are greased up.

Mike provided excellent customer service in helping us select the correct springs for what we were after and when its time to replace the factory shocks we will certainly reach back out to Mike and his team.

Thanks so much Mike!

Nice review and photos, thanks Mark and Lauren!!

Be sure to post up some photos when you get it fully loaded in the back, for comparison.

Installed my Dobinsons 2.5/1.5 setup last weekend. Everything went smooth. Running JBA UCA’s up front.

Thanks to Mike for always answering his phone, replying to all my emails and setting up a package for me based on my plans for truck!

Running 285/70/17 KO2 Jeep Rubicon takeoffs. Got them for hella cheap with a spare too!

1" Pro springs (C59-748R) with C59-599 rear springs. This thing rides fantastic and Mike's customer service was great!

What spring would get me a 1.75-2.0 lift in the rear of a trd pro with no bumper or extra weight in the rear?

All info is in the first post

Rear Coil Options, without KDSS. **Can be used on a KDSS vehicle if you offset the rear. Only the front OR the rear need the offset height coils
C59-323 - Stock height rear coils, same specs as rear TRD Pro OE coils, 375/375mm, 17mm wire, 220LB
C59-599 - Stock rear end, 1.0"-1.25" lift (keeps rear end low, allowing to help level the vehicle rake with 2" front lift). 390/390mm, 17mm wire, 220LB
C59-505 - Stock rear end load, 1.5" lift. 405/405mm, 17mm wire, 220LB
C59-325 - Stock rear end load, 2.0" to 2.25" lift. 420/420mm, 17mm wire, 220LB
C59-327 - 200-400LB heavy rear load weight, 2" lift. 410/410mm, 18mm wire, 271LB
C59-329 - 600-800LB super ridiculous heavy rear load weight, 2" lift. 410/410mm, 18mm wire, 286LB
C59-675V - Variable rate comfort option, stock rear weight, 3" lift. 470/470mm, 16mm wire, 157-230LB variable
C59-677V - Variable rate comfort option, 400+LB heavy rear load weight, 3" lift. 500/500mm, 16mm wire, 157-230LB variable
C59-701V - Variable rate, 600+ LB heavy rear load weight, 3" lift, long travel. 500/500mm, 17mm wire, 210-245LB variable. Designed for those with heavy full rear bumper, tire carrier, roof rack, RTT, drawers, and fridge. Rides very well with all that weight, as well as when loaded even further.

Rear Coil Options, with KDSS. **Or for vehicles with a bad leaning issue and want to offset the height
Our KDSS coils are 15mm taller on one side to go onto the US passenger side (right side) to compensate for vehicle lean
C59-723 - Stock rear end, 1.25" to 1.5" lift, offset height coils for KDSS leveling. 420/405mm, 17mm wire, 228LB
C59-725 - Stock rear end, 2.0" lift with 3rd row, 2.25" without, offset height coils for KDSS leveling (similar to C59-325). 430/415mm, 17mm wire, 228LB
C59-727 - 200-400LB heavy rear load weight, 2" lift, offset height coils (similar to C59-327). 430/415mm, 18mm wire, 271LB
C59-729 - 600-800LB super ridiculous heavy rear load weight, 2" lift, offset height coils (similar to C59-329). 430/415mm, 19mm wire, 333LB

I'd suggest the C59-505 for an unloaded rear end, as the C59-325 would be more like 2.25" with no rear weight at all.

:dammit:

We're having some website issues right now, so the coupons aren't working and several products aren't showing.

Email me for any orders or purchases please.

here is a side shot of the c59-325 rear springs w/ the shrockworks bumper and about 150 pounds of stuff in the back. I'm surprised it didn't sag that much. I still have to put on the 5th wheel, so we'll see how it sits after I add a bit more weight to it.

Just another update. I am about 1.5 years since I started running this setup. Its' still just amazing and glides over these shitty roads, monster potholes & ruts, speed bumps, and un-grated dirt back roads like much more expensive setups. I have noticed no sag or change in function.

With the aid of fluid film they have not rusted at all.

Money very well spent. Thanks Mike!

Got the setup installed and it's been driving like a dream!

C59-300 front coils (red)
C59-599 rear coils (red)

I completed my install a couple of weeks ago, but with Dobinsons shocks (see my signature for details). Absolutely the same driving experience, dramatically improved over stock. T4R OR models should come this way from the factory!

I'll also comment on the quality of parts and service via Mike at Dobinsons:

The parts are exceptional. Spring powder-coating is first class, very impressed. Ordered my struts pre-assembled and they were perfect. No adjustment needed, slipped right into place on the first try.

Mike was also a pleasure to deal with, communicates well and makes time for his customers. Could not expect better service- thanks Mike!

As long as you have 2" or more of lift, you should have no trouble at all. If you didn't have enough lift, it may have too much caster.

Our UCA's have no adjustment at all actually. They have a fixed 3 degrees of added caster set into them.

Stupid question, if there is no adjustment how much alignment work is needed after installing the lift?

I know some shops only do 'factory spec'd' alignments, some shops are more specialized in 4x4 and will work with after market UCA. But with the caster being already set, do I just take it to a normal alignment shop?

My personal advice would be to take it to the best alignment shop you can regardless. If you know of a specialist take it there. Some of the alignment experiences I hear about around here are ridiculous. Half assed as can be with excuses like "we only do stock alignments" which is utter bullshit. A stock vehicle still needs to be aligned in every direction - caster, camber, toe, thrust, etc. For a proper alignment more adjustability makes the job easier, not harder. If properly done a lack of adjustability in one parameter means a bunch more prying and cussing, not just "it is what it is and there's nothing we can do".

Oh and the fixed caster of the Dobs UCA doesn't mean the truck has no caster adjustability, just that the new UCA doesn't add another adjustment point. It's still adjustable, the new UCA just moves the range.

The added fixed caster of our control arms gives one less thing for the alignment tech to complain about!! hahahaha But that extra 3* offsets the amount of lift that was added (lifting it took away some caster), so if they just pretend that they're aligning a stock truck, they'll get it right.

From what I've read (and also experienced myself), it's when you want them to push the tires forward to gain clearance from the rear body mount that the techs can start to freak out, depending on how well they understand how the adjustments truly work.

Oh, and that's also why I have notes on our UCA's that you must have at least a 2" of lift to run them, otherwise you'll have too much caster, and it would also be pointless to run them with a lower height lift in my opinion.
