Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Yep, sorry guys. I'm going to remove the info about the 2" coils and that off the forum today.

Since there is no more prospective 2” coil option for the pro suspension, how risky would the 1” coil and 1/4” spacer for a 2.5” over stock route be? There are as many success stories of spacer lifts as there are horror stories and I just can’t justify tossing the pro suspension just yet. Plus this would prevent the need for UCAs.

I have KDSS - based on what you mentioned earlier I think I'll get the KDSS coils in the rear for sure.

But you mentioned that I don't have to get the KDSS-corrected coils in the front, but I'm still a little confused.

1)First - why do the KDSS coils offered have a higher spring rate than the non-KDSS? Is there something about KDSS that requires them? I am planning on adding a front slimline bumper + winch, so should I just get the KDSS coils with the higher rate?

2)I want about 2-2.5" in front and 1" in back - but will be adding about 150-200lbs up front, plus steel rock sliders and full aluminum skids and a roof rack. Should I get this for the rear, assuming it will compress down to 1-1.5"? "C59-725 - Stock rear end, 2.0" lift with 3rd row, 2.25" without, offset height coils for KDSS leveling (similar to C59-325). 430/415mm, 17mm wire, 228LB"

1. Because they were made for the Prado 150 turbo diesel. Just ignore them if you don't have a heavy front accessory load.

2. If you're adding that much to the front, then C59-726 in the front will work well, then use C59-599 for 1" in the rear.

Again, you ONLY need to offset the front OR the rear for KDSS trucks.

Im already lifted and the on the highest setting on my 5100's on the front im still raked with my OME springs in back. I actually bought the truck line this and are looking at other options to bring the front up.

What rear OME springs are you using? They just look like they're too heavy and tall for your vehicle.

3" front end with stock weight, use GS59-574 with C59-300, and add a 1/4" top mount spacer to the passenger side to offset for KDSS.

I honestly have no idea what rear springs are on it. The previous owner traded it in like this...and since the dealer had no idea what they had I got a pretty good deal on it. I added the front UCA's so I could use the top setting on the 5100's but that only got me another 1/4-1/2in or so. It honestly rides really good with those rear springs.
I dont have any spacers on the front now as oddly it sits perfectly level side to side. Does Dobi make a bolt in assembled strut and spring that would work?
I would rather not change the rear spring as I dont wanna risk losing some lift lol.....but If i had to/you really recommended it I would.

Yeah, I can sell you the struts and coils, and assemble them prior to shipping so you can just bolt it in, and put your other set to the side.

Just finished installing 5100's all around (stock setting in front), and with Mike's help, purchased 302's for the front and 325's for the rear. Appreciate Mike's quick response, and I think his suggestion was spot on. Gained 3"-2.5" in the front (driver's side a bit lower), and 2.5"-2" in the rear (again, driver's side .5" lower). I got a little more lift than I initially wanted, but I'm sure it will settle a bit. Also, I wanted a little room to grow (i.e. add weight) with a LoPro bumper and winch, sliders (going on tomorrow) and full roof rack, so I think the final resting spot will be good to go. It's nearly level, which I wanted, and the 275/70-17 KO2's still look good. Add a diff drop kit at the same time, and the half shafts are nearly level. Not sure if it was really needed, but from what I've read, it can't hurt....

Will try to get a pic up soon.

Just worked with Mike and David to get our Dobinsons suspension (302/505, 700/705 - new caps + assembly) ordered a couple days ago. Both fellas were a pleasure to work with. Stoked to get it all in and installed.

Wow, you wasted no time!! Looks like you installed them within a couple of days of receiving them!!

Yep, expect them to settle 1/4" to 1/2" over 500 miles to settle into the correct height (the rear especially). It helps to add some weight to the rear hatch to get them to "break in" a bit quicker too!!

Nope, wanted to get them in ASAP. I'd been sitting on the 5100's for a couple of weeks while I decided on which springs to get. Had a friend who owed me a favor, so having four hands and two minds made the job easy! Used the bottle jack technique in the rear (between the axle and the bump stop) and it made getting the rear springs in easy!

Mike- love this set up this guy has but I want to maintain stock rake, and if I have the rear loaded up partially will it have a small amount of reverse rake? Want to go 2.5 all around or even 2 all around but would kick myself if I went lower. Not adding anything like a winch, bumper, rear anything. Maybe eventually a roof rack and hopefully 275/285 tires.

This was a fail. I never quoted the dudes set up. *♂️.

Anyway, I was thinking either the 302/325 set up. Torn between that or rear 305. Not a lot of constant rear weight. No bumpers, winches or anything in the front or rear. 95% highway and Boston city driving. I have New Hampshire/Maine/Vermont driving.

Also thinking of the 700/701 shock struts. Any difference with the longer travel or softer spring?

The 302 front and 325 rear would be a good option for you. That's 2.5" in the front unloaded. In the rear, that's 2" to 2.25" when empty, and you'll definitely have about 2" of rake to play with.

Here are some photos of those same coils on 5th Gens.

I'd suggest GS59-700 front struts, and GS59-705 rear shocks, if the rear will stay empty. If you'll end up carrying some weight always, then the GS59-701 shock valving is better suited. You can't use the long travel front struts with those, as they add lift as well. And the rear LT shocks would give too much down travel with those coils that the coils would come loose at full extension.

Mike these are exactly what I want. What is some weight always? To justify the 701 over the 705? With this set up and a 285 you think I need UCAs? To get the room for the tire keeping in mind I’m only going around 2.5 in front?

Great pictures. Those guys built some nice trucks. Thanks Mike I’ll hit you up when I’m ready.

Sorry that I missed the first message.

Considering what Bilstein is saying about their struts, I wouldn't try a lifted coil and a spacer. They're not even recommending any coil other than stock on their struts. Look here: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/262785-broken-bilstein-5100-fronts.html I know they're 5100's and not Pro/6112 Struts, but still.

C59-300 with GS59-574 are a fraction under 3"
C59-302 with GS59-574 are 3.5"

OK cool i havent been annoying you lol....just really thinking about it. So here goes...
The C59-302's with the GS59-574's for 3.5in...those work for KDSS correct and are they a set 3.5 or if need be are they adjustable lower? Also how much for those with the KDSS lean correct assembled and shipped to me 25413. If its easier you can PM me a price.

Thanks in advance and sorry for being a pain lol
