Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

Do the Dobinsons shocks have a "break-in" period where it get less firm?

I had Bilstein 5100's but I hated the firm ride, and I just put on Dobinsons shocks front and back (already had the coils) - and I think there is a minimal difference. I thought it would be a bigger difference, due to switching from mono to twin tube, and also just b/c Bilstein's were noted to be firm by many...

(Note - only driven a few miles around the neighborhood and nothing too crazy yet...)

Great question...looking forward to the answer.

I have the 3/2 setup (bumper and winch) and have 500+ miles on them and they are still fairly stiff. I also noticed I ended up with less than .25" of rake...which is not ideal.

What springs are you using?

I have a Shrockworks front bumper with a SB 10k Winch. No weight in the rear (which is why I am a little concerned. If I put 2 adults and 200+lbs in the cargo, Im afraid ill look like a boat going down the road.

Ive got the following setup on a 2012 4runner SR5:

Front-352/574
Rear- 325/701

My measurements from center of hub to bottom fender after approx 500 miles:

DF-23 1/4
DR- 23 3/4

PF-23.5
PR-24

Anyone have issues with leaking?

My buddy at the 4x4 shop had a leaky set with less than 1000 miles on them and another friend has had his leak as well.

That made me go with Icons.

Might be shit installation, though...

675V with the adjustable rear sway bar links. 314's up front.

Just installed this past weekend on wife's 19' SR5P (w/third row)

Front: C59-302/GS59-700 w/ Camburg BJ UCA
Rear: C59-505/GS59-705
Tires: BFG K02 275/70/17
Wheels: Method MR306 17 x 8.5 4.75bs

Hey, I'm running the same setup, minus UCAs. Decided to ditch XREAS and toytec spacers for decent suspension and lift. I emailed w Mike back and forth (bless him for all my questions) and got it installed a couple weeks ago. Huge difference in ride quality, to me. Feels a lot more.confident, no nose dive or body roll like I had with xreas and spacers. Definitely the best mod I've done to my LE so far. Just need to see if I can stuff some 275/65s now, but I don't think I'll be lucky enough.

Your wife's SR5P is on point

Thanks man! She loves the way it turned out! I had the 275/70/17 installed prior to lifting it and they slightly rubbed in full turn, both forward and reverse. Once lift and alignment was completed no rubbing at all (on street driving). If it rubs while off-road, then i will do fender liner mod, and remove mudflaps if necessary. I do have the dreaded steering wheel vibration between 40-60 mph. :ybrick: going to check balance of tires again.

Just got my setup in the mail today. Install is on wednesday so ill post up some pics this thursday or weekend.

I've had mine on for about 5000 miles now and I was initially unhappy with the firmness. I think it has either softened in the last 1000 miles or I've gotten used to it. I'm putting on UCAs in the next few weeks to further soften up the front. No leaks so far!

I just want to first say that I really appreciate Mike's help with my suspension setup. I ended up with the C59-302 and C59-599 with the Dobinsons struts. This will be a 2.5" lift in the front and 1" udin the rear.

What I need help with now is finding out what is the largest size tire I can fit. I have tried searching, but can't someone with this same size lift and tires they are running. I also don't have time to run through 100's of pages of threads. I do not want to cut or modify anything. If someone could please help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Also, I am thinking of running some Spidertrax wheel spacers. Will this help with fitting wider tires, or is the limiting factor the mudflap or fender lining?

You can probably fit 285/70r17 if you use stock wheels. Some people fit this with little or no rubbing I believe. You can definitely run 275/70/17 with no modifications (safest tire size upgrade if you definitely do not want to mod). Every car is "different." Also, different tires are different actual sizes. For example, KO2's run small while Nitto Ridge Grapplers are actual size or large.

Wheel spacers will cause you to rub because they effectively increase the scrub radius.

Went from C59-300R with 1/4” spacers to C59-314R front springs with no spacers...
I’m loving it!!!

Really makes me want to switch from my 300/574s to 302/574s... Maybe the 50ish pounds of second battery kit and the skids I've added are enough weight.... Then again, that makes me wonder about 314/574s after a slimline bumper and winch

I have C59-302 and C59-505 for 2.5"/1.5" and I'm running 285/70r17 Ridge Grapplers on the stock wheels. No other modifications and no rubbing.

I'm pretty sure he's running the 700 struts, so less height, but also he's running a stock tire size, or close to it, so be careful when visually looking at these trucks with different combos of parts, as wheels and tires can easily change the appearance of "lift height" and just how full the fenders are.
