Dobinsons 5th Gen T4R Suspension options - from Exit Offroad

A few months back I picked up the Dobinsons stock height rear coils for my 2010 SR5 and it looks almost like it has a lift in the rear now. I was hoping the springs would settle in and the height would drop some but so far it doesn't appear to have.

Beginning to think I will have to do a small lift in the front to even the vehicle back out again.

This was the description provided by Vivid Racing website:

Whats your hub to fender measurement? It's likely your stock springs were just sagged badly.

I don't know the measurement right offhand and it's late out and dark.
I will attach a picture here to show the difference between front and back.

Picture from today. Still waiting for my new wheels to show up but debating on lifting the front a bit more. With the IMS extended front shocks with 302's I started at 3.5" when first installed and has settled to 2.5" after only a couple hundred miles already. Ride quality has been excellent though.

I've got a ~2''/1'' twin tube setup coming my way soon, I'll take a ton of pics during install and post some height comparisons when I'm done with it all.

I have basically settled on the following components, but how would they look with the stock size tires? I am currently running the General Grabber ATX in stock size. I am debating when I should move forward with this, now or when I need new tires and at that point move to a bigger size. The plan is for a low profile bumper with winch as well.

Front Coils: C59-302
Front Struts: GS59-700
Rear Coils: C59-505
Rear Shocks: GS59-705

Thanks

I would get the lift height you want, then later when you need tires, go up to the size you want. Tires aren't cheap, and it's not worth taking your good ones off unless you can get good money for them.

I'm sure people on here are running those parts with stock tires, but I don't have any photos saved of it. That's the most common combination of parts sold for 5th Gens.

I'm running this exact setup on stock sized Falkens and it has been great. The tires do look a little small due to the wheel gap sometimes but i don't care personally. I will say that the rear is pretty high, higher than expected, but again i'm fine with it. See pic, it's not the best one but it shows where i'm at after a year of running on the setup.

Side note, even if the 4r looked terrible with them the ride of the IMS suspension would make up for it 10x. It's firm but smooth over bumps. I cant describe how much i love driving it.

Thanks, it's helpful seeing a picture.

And thanks CrikeyMike for your response as well

people think itll look silly on stock tires but then you see one on the road and they really dont look bad. subjective obviously. Sometimes I do miss those little P rated car tires though:ranger:

Haha, that was my worry, that'll it look like I skipped leg day! I'm only 20k miles into my tires so I have a bit before I can go 275 or 285.

I feel like stock size tires on aftermarket wheels look fine, but when they're on stock wheels, they seem to look smaller.

Looking at the Dobinsons site versus yours, I see you have the C59-296. I want those. Looking at going C59-296 Front coils, GS59-700 Struts, C59-323 rear coils, GMS59-705 Shocks and Firestone 4135 airbags for camping/towing tent trailer.

I don't have a need to go bigger in tire size as the 265 Falken AT3 look great and are still fairly new.

Will this setup work okay?

Thanks.

Yes, that's a great option to keep the lift height low for the stock size tires, and also have rear end support for towing.

I forgot to ask earlier, would I need UCAs with this lift? I do not do any crazy offroad but do not want to stress the stock parts unnecessarily. Also, since I am looking at a low profile bumper/winch (~125 lbs) but nothing on the rear, would it look odd with the additional front weight bringing that down and just 1.5" rear?

Any lift height of 2" or more benefits from aftermarket UCA's, giving a better alignment and articulation.

They're required at 3", but optional below that.

Me telling someone else what looks odd doesn't really matter, as it's that person's opinion if they like it or not.

Understood, thank you! I'll look into what my options are and see if I'd want to upgrade at the same time, or later.

I like my stock sized tires with my Dobinson’s lift.

- Cheaper,
- lighter,
- in-stock @ most tire shops(already had to replace one after getting shanked by huge piece of metal right before Moab trip)
- My OEM spare (stock location) would work in a pinch, allowing me to carry two spares if i get a 2nd swingaway carrier on my Victory4x4 bumper.
- Hasn’t held me back so far on offroad trips we’ve taken.
- More room in wheelwell for 100% tuck during flexing.

Looks? Don’t really care, nor do i care what others think. :)
