Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

Ok, I'd run C59-300 on GS59-220 struts for 3" of front lift with stock front end V6 weight. Then on the rear, C59-505 for 1.5" and GS59-705 with softer valving. That would be the best and most comfortable on and off-road suspension with that lift height. With those rear coils, 150LBS shouldn't cost more than about 1/4" in drop, so you would be good to go.

Edit, sorry, use C59-325 for 2" rear lift, not the C59-505 for 1.5". Otherwise you'll end up with negative rake possibly.

So i should still go with the gs59-705 shock for the rear?
Do you have any pictures of this setup?
And how much will the total be with and without uca's including shipping to Honolulu?

FYI, for those interested, it's about $250 give or take for a standard suspension to ship to Hawaii from here with our shipping discounts included. Every pound makes a difference though, so it depends on the actual part numbers ordered.

Finally Installed

I finally got around to installing my lift and so far I really like it. Below is what I installed on my '07, V8. Tires are 275/70/17.

Front:
Coils, C59-350
Shocks, G559-220
Diff Drop, DD59-527K
Dobinson's UCA's and Ball Joints

Rear:
Coils, C59-677V
Shocks, GS59-701

My C4Fab bumper'ette' and winch are still on the way and the rear is pretty much unloaded. I spec'd the coils to this additional weight so I'll do some more measurements loaded and after the coils have settled. Distance from the center of the front wheel to the fender is 23" and the rear 24".

That looks really great! Looks like 285/70 KO2's? How much trimming did you have to do with that lift, if any?

They're 275's.

No trimming and so far I haven't experienced any rubbing. I haven't taken it offroad yet and have some more weight to add to her but so far so good.

Edit: I did do the front fender liner mod now that I think about it. I was running those tires before the lift and had rubbing pulling into my driveway. The rubbing occured on the front portion of the fender and not the body mount.

Looks great! And thanks for the measurements, I was about to ask but then I saw you already shared the info!

How do you like the ride with the 677V coils in the back without much weight?

Loving my 677V springs. I have no weight in the back and they are not bad at all. Im sure it will be even better once my 2.5" Radflo shocks show up

I'll add a shot of my setup for reference here. I have a 4wd V8 model. I went with the C59-302 in the front with the C59-505 in the rear. Unfortunately, I never took any before or after measurements. I thought about doing the 599's in the back to keep things a little more level, but I decided to go a little taller to keep from squatting with a load. I'll add that I don't mind some rake, and I totally despise a squatted look whether done on purpose (dumb) or loaded down (avoidable). Thanks to Mike for good communication with my order. Amazon was showing more stock than what was available, so he gave me the option to go with another color if I wanted. I was in no hurry and told him to wait until the teals came in, which ended up happening at least a week earlier than expected.

what shocks you running?

Billy 5100's. The ride feels great, by the way. I went from an XREAS setup (still functioning after 218K) and I definitely feel like it's an improvement. Firm without being harsh, yet still pretty compliant when things get bumpy.

Edit: I also went with 2nd gen rear sway bar end links. They're about an inch longer than stock, so I think that helps keep the swaybar from being bound up with the extra height in the rear.

It's really nice but a bit stiffer than stock. Stock was super smooth and plush but now I feel the bumps which is to be expected. Keep in mind these are on the street at street pressure in the tires.

I've only had it offroad in the snow so far which isn't a good test. I came off of a 3rd gen with 5100's and OME 890's and they were much stiffer. Once I build out my interior and exterior a bit more I believe the 677V's will be perfect.

What kind of issues will I run into with the 2.5" springs without new UCA?

No real "issues" except that the angle that the stock UCA rides at is pretty steep, so it adds firmness through the front end. Also the stock arms will get very close to touching the springs. The flatter UCA's can be, the better the ride, basically. In stock form, they're pretty much parallel to the ground.

But the majority of people out there, and on this forum, running 2.5" are running stock UCA's.

Interesting info on UCA. Been debating on new UCA but everywhere I read, each manufacturer has their flaw. Some work out the kinks and some still trying. I just don't know where I want to throw my money at...lol But loving the dobinsons springs. :first:

05' V8 4Runner

Currently trying to decide on a lift kit for my 2005 V8 4Runner. Has 83,000 miles on it and the XREAS system. I was looking at OME however some guys here in Ohio have Dobinson. What would you recommend?

I plan on getting a front bumper/winch in the next 6-9 months (ARB or Pelf)
The rear I plan on building drawer setup and a wilco offroad tire carrier in the next 9 months.

I would like a 3ish inch lift - will look at aftermarket UCA's. Does Dobinson do "extended travel" shocks/springs?

I had my setup installed for a few hundred miles now. Overall, I'm generally happy. Mike was great to work with and answered all my questions. The fit/finish/quality is top notch.

I ended up with the:
C59-302 front springs
GS59-221 front struts
C59-505 rear springs
GS59-637 rear shocks

Dobinson's installed my front struts and coils before shipping and I dropped them off at my local mechanic for install. A day later, I had my truck back with the new lift. As a point of reference, I've got a 2006 V6 sport with 142,000 miles and a Daystar lift. The XREAS was in need of replacement so out it went along with the spacer lift.

To me, the height is right on where I want it. Handling is excellent. The lean around corners has been virtually eliminated. I will say, I might have a poor point of reference since this is my first lifted vehicle but the ride leaves something to be desired. Obviously, this is very subjective but in town things are pretty firm. Mike and I have discussed that the angle of the stock UCA's leads to some stiffness in the front but the rear is where I feel things more. Unloaded, it tends to bounce around quite a bit and on our frost heaved roads its uncovered every knock and rattle my car has. Maybe I'm a good candidate for the softer valved shocks or need to add some weight to the back to settle things down.

Hi Mike, how close are you guys to launching MRR stateside? I’m not ready to buy yet but am interested in hearing more about it.

replacing the rear sway bay links with the longer 2nd gen links. This will allow the rear coil to extend. Now the taller coil is being preloaded by the shorter sway bar link andi think thats whats affecting the ride in the rear.
